Proposal to make "Finishing" a disambiguation page and move this page to a new article edit

Currently a search on the term "Finishing" comes up with this page about whisky making. Personally, I had never heard of it until now. I was looking for information about the manufacturing process. It seems to me that it would be more appropriate to have the term "Finishing" point to the disambiguation page, since no one sense of the word is dominant. I propose making "Finishing" the disambiguation page and moving this page to a new article called "Finishing (whiskey)". Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on the matter? --Greenbreen (talk) 18:59, 9 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Just move this page to your suggested title, and then move the disambiguation page over the redirect that will appear here. See Help:Moving a page if you haven't done a page-move before. I can help if you run into problems. :) -- Quiddity (talk) 06:20, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
OK, so I moved "Finishing" to "Finishing (whiskey)", but when I tried to move "Finishing (disambiguation)" to "Finishing", the software complained that the page already existed. I'm thinking I don't have the proper privileges to do it. I'll leave this message here for a day or two (so I can get feedback on how to do it myself if it's possible), but if I haven't gotten a response by then, I'll make a request for an administrator to do the page move. -- Greenbreen (talk) 17:25, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Ahh, my mistake. I guess a moved page can be moved back over its own redirect, but a different page cannot be moved onto the redirect. I've added an entry at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Current requests, which should suffice. (If anyone objects, they'll move it into the section below). -- Quiddity (talk) 18:00, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I thought that "whisky" was a misspelling, but then I found the Wikipedia article Whisky, which says that "Whisky" is the Scottish spelling, and "Whiskey" is the Irish spelling. I know absolutely nothing at all about finishing as it relates to alcoholic beverages, but I see that the article I moved uses the Whisky spelling. Does anyone who knows something about this process know if one or the other spelling is more appropriate? I'm thinking that just to maintain consistency between the article title and content, the page should be renamed to "Finishing (whisky)". -- Greenbreen (talk) 17:52, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well caught. And yes, the title should match the article (and viceversa, whichever came first), so one more page move for this one. -- Quiddity (talk) 18:00, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I moved "Finishing (whiskey)" to "Finishing (whisky)" and updated the pages that linked to it. There is currently a double redirect when someone searches on "Finishing"; it redirects to "Finishing (whiskey)" which redirects to "Finishing (whisky)", but that should be fixed whenever "Finishing" becomes the disambiguation page. -- Greenbreen (talk) 19:41, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
