Even more important information! edit

.David Justin / Dr. David J. Hanson. You have been persistently been spam linking to your sites mainly using sock puppets such as those blocked in this case: Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/David Justin (2nd).

You claim that the page you created on 10-9 2005 is based on http://www2SPAM.potsdam.edu/hansondj/Controversies/1124913901.html However, if we examine the page using the Waybackmachine http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/Controversies/1124913901.html , we find that at February 14 2006, http://web.archive.org/web/20060214182339/http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/Controversies/1124913901.html this page mentions Cherrington only as references: there is no information about him.

You appear to have copied the text from Wikipedia more or less verbatim into your own page some time during February 2007 and you are now claiming that your page is the original source!

Did you really think your sleight of hand wouldn’t be found out? It is hardly likely to enhance your reputation as an academic. Wham Bam No Thank You Spam 08:24, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

May I point out that the text that was "copied" into the potsdam.edu page was created by User:David Justin on September 10, 2005, and that contributors to Wikipedia retain the copyright over their own contributions. You're not really accusing Dr. Hanson of plagarizing himself, are you? -- John Broughton (♫♫) 14:59, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Documentation information edit

Hi Wham- Please note that the material in bold was from “Temperance Groups and Leaders in the U.S.” Unfortunately, the misspelling of “coercive” was also copied! The Wikipedia entry is clearly sourced from that page and indicating so does not constitute spam. To the contrary, it is proper documentation. Thank you for recognizing this.David Justin 23:38, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ernest Cherrington (1877-1950) was a leading temperance journalist (see temperance movement). He became active in the '''Anti-Saloon League''' and was appointed editor of the organization's publishing house, the American Issue Publishing Company. He edited and contributed to the writing of The Standard Encyclopedia of the Alcohol Problem, a comprehensive six-volume work. In addition, he was active in establishing the World League Against Alcoholism.

Cherrington favored education over the coersive use of force to bring about Prohibition and sobriety, a position in direct opposition to that of Anti-Saloon leader '''Wayne Wheeler'''. Following a number of name changes, the league is now the '''American Council on Alcohol Problems'''.

Cherrington remained active in temperance activities until shortly before his death in 1950.

Article Evaluation edit

When evaluating the Ernest Cherrington Wikipedia article, I first chose it due to the fact that it had little to no information and thought it would make a good Wikipedia page to add to. It wasn't an article too hard to evaluate due to the fact that there wasn't much to evaluate to begin with. What the author had was well wrote and it all was relating to the article's topic. Since Ernest Cherrington was a man that lived in the late 1800s to mid 1900s, there was no information that was out of date by any means, nor was there any bias in the article. The only viewpoints before I added to the document that were represented was his contribution to the Anti-Saloon League, so I decided to add more about his early life and how he had gotten to that point as such an important role and character within the Anti-Saloon League. The article didn't have any citations before I added my information and citations to it, but it did have hyperlinks to other Wikipedia articles that I tried out and indeed work. Within the talk page there are a lot of people arguing with the author who seems to either no longer go onto his Wikipedia page or doesn't care because it turns out the information he has on Ernest Cherrington is all from a different site and he hasn't cited any of the work so a few people have been telling him that it is straight plagiarism and that he also needs to cite his sources when he gets information from them. I really think it would be in the authors best interest to listen to the others commenting on this talk page and update and add citations and sources to your page, along with changing what you have into your own words so it is not plagiarism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aowen30 (talkcontribs) 22:40, 11 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
