Potential merge?? edit

We're writing about the same place here as the article Hagley Museum and Library, so there might be some discussion on merging them. For now it looks like the HM&L concentrates on the museum and this one concentrates on the mill, so I'll say leave it as is subject to further discussion. The Hagley Museum and Library was (almost probably) the first museum in the world to commemorate a gunpowder factory; and it has 50 years of existence to cover. So that article has significance in its own right. The Eleutherian Mills represents the first US gunpowder mill, built on designs & technology imported from France and later England; it represents the foundation of the duPont company; and later the foundation of US smokeless powder industry. So this article also has significance, but it needs to be greatly expanded - it is barely a stub at present - and the mills had over 100 years of use. So, I don't think the two articles should be merged.Pyrotec 18:54, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I agree, more or less, but if I had to decide now I'd say that the 2 articles would be better merged. But with more material this could be a great article on its own. Sorry I don't have time to research it. I'll try to add some material from my research on Brandywine Creek, e.g. who owned the millsite (and previous mill and water use rights) beforehand. I've toured the mills and museum and found the mills much more interesting. Smallbones 02:30, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've added a bit more; but, like you, I'm short of time to do research at the moment. I already have some of the material and I'll start early in 2008. I hope you enjoyed the tour, its on my list to do but I've not yet visited the USA.Pyrotec 09:19, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I have been assigned to this article for a college course and I found this discussion interesting. I too noticed the length of the article, and not much has changed in the ten years since this discussion started. I too believe this should be its own article, though I understand the suggestion to merge them. If either of you have any suggestions to assist me in the editing process, I welcome them.
