Recent Additions

Hi. I marked this page as 'under construction' recently, but realized the task was bigger than I thought. Apologies if I have overstepped the mark by not editing it sooner. I have added to one section (elections 1977-97), but plan to add more regarding the 1955 and 1971 elections. If anybody feels my bits need tidying up, please do so - I am still getting the hang of tables... Davidelit 19:50, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Nice work creating a useful historical page, but I would like to "tidy up" overlap between this and the two "main articles" it cites. In particular, can we cut the huge tables that simply repeat the legislative results? Translation Consensus

Also I am aware that there is a mismatch between my rendering of PDI as "Indonesian Democratic Party" and the translation that is on this page, ie "Indonesian Party of Democracy". I didn't change the original name as I was worried this might mess up any links. There are a number of conflicts of translations (and spellings) among the various Wikipedia pages relating to Indonesia, and the need for a concensus is becoming more pressing. For my tuppence/two cents worth, I propose that the standard followed by the "Jakarta Post" and "Tempo" (English edition) be adopted, as they are the two major English langauge current affairs publications in Indonesia. I'm not sure how these things are decided, but this one should be. Any thoughts anyone? Davidelit 19:50, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

POV

Section on "Elections Under the New Order (1977-1997)" seems to be biased and does not give an overall picture of elections , instead arguing how Golkar ensures it wins votes.

This statement especially:

"There are anecdotal accounts of opposition votes disappearing, and of officials deliberately spoiling ballot papers bearing a vote for the opposition. (Personal communication, 1997-1998)"

No full biblio is given for the "personal communication", reliability questionable.

Fair points. I have removed the "personal communication" part, which on reflection smacked of original research anyway. I'm in the process of tidying and expanding this area, but it's slow going because there's lots of (differing!) numbers, and I'm still struggling with tables. However, given that the whole reason for the elections was to legitimize the rule of Golkar, I feel that information about how they ensured they did actually win them is important, as without guaranteed victory, they would never have dared hold elections. Multiple voting is still a hot issue and there is reason to believe it occurred in 2004 if not 2009 legislative election. So, even though a reference is given, it is somewhat POV to mention it *only* for Golkar. Can we get some references that enable a short subsection on "irregularities" that focuses on *all* elections, not just the Suharto ones?

Also, there is no mention of "kuningisasi" whereby Golkar painted curbs and other public infrastructure yellow to advertise their party in advance of elections, justifying this as "public improvement". There must be plenty of references to this in written media over the years.

Finally, it would be useful to link to the WP entry on "single-party state" and explain the lockstep "logic" of a party that protects civil servants by forcing them all to vote for it. Martindo (talk) 00:55, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Listing SBY on top of the anticipatory chart is POV, guys. The chart should reflect the sequence assigned by the Electoral Commission as slots 1-2-3, not polls. The sequence here (even after election) should match the sequence in the chart on the Indonesian Presidential Elections 2009 page. FYI, Liputan 6 SCTV showed Mega ahead with over 50% on their web site yesterday. Martindo (talk) 00:39, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Two suggestions for small improvements

Paragraph 3 of the lead explains the KTP qualification for voting. However, the section at bottom of the article on Voter Registration says *nothing* about what registration is. Where do all those numbers in the Registered Voters column come from? Some mention should be made of the process of registration, especially how it differed at various times (or at least in 21st century) from a simple list of all KTP holders in the country.

Winners of elections are not seated immediately. Some mention should be made about inauguration date for president (or at least which month) and when the DPR first meets. The best place for this would probably be the first paragraph of the first section (2009 leg. and pres. elections). Martindo (talk) 00:21, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Winner

Is the winner based only on majority, or is there a rule that winner must win a certain number of votes in some number of provinces, to show national support? Numbersinstitute (talk) 22:52, 22 March 2023 (UTC)
