This is a nice article. At first, I wasn't sure if this should have been split out to begin with. Hurricane Charley is already at 27kb of prose, so re-lumping this back in wouldn't be overkill. It's good, I'm just not positive the fork is needed. Granted, there are other "effects" articles forked from there, and if they were all lumped back in, we'd be looking at 40kb of prose for the article; pretty big. Anyway, here's the issues:

  • Hurricane Charley's main article says it's a Category 4 hurricane, while this article says it's Category 1. I'm confused; if you mean that it was only category 1 at the time and became 4 later, make that clear in the lead (it's fine in the body)
  • Not sure how to make it clearer than it already is, I did add an extra line emphasizing that it was a Category 1 at the time.
  • Alt text (WP:ALT) needed for images.
  • I'm not going past GA with this so do I really have to add it? It's just a pain to do.... Cyclonebiskit (talk) 20:46, 8 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'll put the article on hold and pass upon completion; not much to fix. Wizardman 21:42, 7 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I could care less about alt text personally, so I'm fine with you not adding it. Seems silly to me. In any case, I'm passing it. Wizardman 04:15, 9 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merge? edit

I think we should merge this, because, Charley is short and effects are minimal. Can easily fit in season section. @I like hurricanes, Hurricane Noah, Destroyeraa, Jasper Deng, Weatherman27, LightandDark2000, and CyclonicStormYutu: thoughts? --HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 21:25, 17 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Inbetween support and weak support 1 million and one death isn't enough for an article. seeing the comments below, I either oppose this merge or make a Effects of Hurricane Charley in the Caribbean. I like hurricanes 21:30, 17 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose Seeing the comments below give good points, therefore I now oppose merging this article.🌀Weatherman27🏈 (chat with me!). 21:33, 17 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose I have a strong feelings that this article could be expandable to include Carribean impacts. If this were to be Jamaica only, then I support this as there is not enough impacts. SMB99thx my edits 05:58, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • The main article is 60 kb's so I def disagree here that this is mergeable. YE Pacific Hurricane 05:46, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I don't really like merging Effects of Hurricane Charley pages into the main article that much. SMB99thx my edits 05:58, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose as author – Passes WP:GNG and follows WP:SPLIT. Merging would create undue weight in the main Charley article. Again, the merging crusade is tiresome. ~ Cyclonebiskit (chat) 06:00, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I agree with this. I want these merge proposals to dealt with by the next day and probably propose a 3-month merge moratorium. SMB99thx my edits 06:04, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • @HurricaneTracker495: be aware of WP:CANVASS with mass pinging. Reflects poorly when you're tagging specific people, especially for merge discussions and when the primary author is excluded. ~ Cyclonebiskit (chat) 06:06, 18 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Expand to Carib? edit

There's a reason why the merge failed, but this is an attempt to expand impacts. Cuba saw a C3 with $923 million and significant deaths. IMO, if we ought to expand this, here is a good place to do so. (Of course I can't do it myself) --Hurricane Tracker 495 02:26, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Pinging WPTC members Destroyeraa, Jasper Deng, LightandDark2000, Hurricanehink, SMB99thx, Cyclone Toby, Cyclonebiskit, Iseriously, KN2731, Chicdat. This cannot go stale.--Hurricane Tracker 495 23:57, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yea I think that's a fine idea. Call it "Caribbean" or the "Greater Antilles"? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:57, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Caribbean typically refers to both the Lesser and Greater Antilles. Charley was a depression when it went through the Lesser Antilles, and damage there was pretty minimal. The article is currently a GA, so I suggest creating a draft, so the GA remains for now and readers don't get confused by a huge expansion. After enough information if found and added, Charley Jamaica can be merged into Charley Greater Antilles, HurricaneTracker495. Thoughts? ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 16:26, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Destroyeraa: I’m talking about Cuba where it was a C3. Hurricane Tracker 495 16:34, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Hurricanehink and HurricaneTracker495: Then Greater Antilles would work best, since there were obviously impacts in the Cayman Islands and possibly Haiti. ~ Destroyer🌀🌀 17:06, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Destroyeraa: fine. I think it should have a new article, and we can merge this article in, so it can be a new GA. Hurricane Tracker 495 17:29, 23 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
