editCaravaggio was 15 years old in 1586 - it is unlikely he was in Sicily at that time - more likely after he fled Malta and arrived in Sicily c.1609. This should be edited to reflect this!
Contrary to what's stated in the article, the walls are not highly polished, and deep toolmarks are clearly visible. I cannot comment about the higher, less visible areas. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.50.81.186 (talk) 09:16, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
My sicilian mother would tell me of the legend of the Ear of Dionysius (in Sicilian of course). Syracuse (or Siracusa in Sicilian) is a Greek based name and the city was founded by Greeks. The last part of the name - "acus" is Greek for hearing or hear. I would imagine that there is a connection between the name of Syracuse and the Ear of Dionysius. 203.214.22.116 (talk) 04:10, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
purpose and history should be merged
editThe purpose section had a lot of history days in it and even repeats information from the history section. I propose that somebody merge the information from the purpose into the history section and remove purpose.
If anyone knows when certain events happened, please expand the section with that information and make sure to order it chronologically.
Construction?
editThe history section only starts post-naming ans is from legends. Given that the cave is described as being carved by human hand, some archeological evidence should be included as to whom actually made it and why. Not only hearsay (pun intended). 200.127.211.12 (talk) 06:46, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
