DoraDora (disambiguation)

  • It is simple. Disambiguation pages should have (disambiguation) at the end. It only makes sense. By having 2 titles for 1 page it's wating name space. Alos most the titles under Dora aren't title "Dora" but Dora and another word at the end. So Dora should be used for the exact definition. EunSoo (talk) 07:15, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Not sure what this request is asking. If there isn't a primary topic then we don't use "(disambiguation)" - see WP:DABNAME. There doesn't appear to be a primary topic in this case so there is no reason for this move. Dpmuk (talk) 08:19, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • I am simply asking that Dora be changed to Dora (disambiguation). EunSoo (talk) 08:23, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose per WP:DABNAME. Just to make it clear as my comment above has been copied from the requested move page and doesn't make it terribly clear I oppose this move. Dpmuk (talk) 13:05, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
And make it clear that Dora is a primary topic. EunSoo (talk) 14:19, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
So what are you saying should be at Dora? You haven't requested that anything be moved there. Dpmuk (talk) 14:29, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oh I don't know what I am saying now seeing as I am running around. LOL! Okay Dora turns into Dora (disambiguation) and replace Dora with the definition on the Dora (disambiguation) page. Other Wikipedia articles have that. EunSoo (talk) 14:33, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Dora (disambiguation) just redirects back to this page so I'm still unclear as to what you're asking. I think you're saying that you think that Dora should just consist of "Dora is a female name of Greek origin, derived from Dorothea or Theodora, meaning "God's Gift", from "δῶρον" (doron), "gift" + "θεός" (theos), "god". The earliest form of the word is the Mycenaean Greek do-ra, meaning "gift", written in Linear b syllabic script."? I'd oppose such a move as there is no clear primary topic and as there seems to be some consensus to have such a section at the start of name disambiguation pages (although I don't believe there is a policy or guideline on this). Dpmuk (talk) 14:38, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't understand why you don't understand Dpmk?? Dora+original def.=Dora (disambiguation)=All the other Dora's. How hard is that to understand? The primary topic is obviously "Dora". EunSoo (talk) 14:44, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • I believe what the proposer is saying is that the current page is a hybrid of an article about the given name (with references) and a disambiguation page (with some questionable entries). Neither is in the proper format. I think the proposal is actually that they should be split (not moved) into Dora -- which would include the intro, references, and list of people with that first name -- and Dora (disambiguation) which would include the rest. I would support a split. Station1 (talk) 18:00, 1 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose move. Support moving name information (derivation, refs etc) to a new page Dora (given name), together with the list of people named Dora. This fits with both WP:DAB and WP:Anthroponymy. The name Dora is not clearly more important than all the other uses, so Dora should remain as a cleaned up disambiguation page. Tassedethe (talk) 08:35, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment. I still oppose moving this page as I think it should stay a disambiguation page due to the lack of a primary topic. However, I'd support splitting out the name information and putting it in a new article as per Tassedethe. Dpmuk (talk) 10:31, 2 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
I don't understand, isn't this Dora (disambiguation) the disambiguation page? So why would you change it to another name. when this Dora should be under this Dora (disambiguation)?? EunSoo (talk) 10:02, 3 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose I think the proposer misunderstands how disambiguation works on Wikipedia. Splitting the article should be done on its own merits, before we decide if there is a primary meaning. Several Wikipedia pages have a brief explanation of a name before going into links, like this. PatGallacher (talk) 11:50, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Based on the above discussion, I've split out the name info to Dora (name). Station1 (talk) 06:43, 9 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
