Should there be no words about Miller's connection to Sting?

Origins.

According to this article he was born to a US father and Irish mother in Argentina where he spent the first ten years of his life. He then moved to Wisconsin, USA and then to London at the age of 13. He became notable while residing in England. Under MOS:OPENPARA it should reflect that. Not wherever he is born. Karst (talk) 10:26, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

There seems to be some debate, because someone changed it again today. This is what the Wikipedia documentation says that you linked to: "In most modern-day cases this will mean the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident, or if notable mainly for past events, the country where the person was a citizen, national or permanent resident when the person became notable. Ethnicity, religion, or sexuality should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability. Similarly, previous nationalities or the country of birth should not be mentioned in the lead unless they are relevant to the subject's notability."

IMHO that is pretty clear. Over his career he has been based in Britain, that is where he became notable. His parents origin, his time in Argentina and the USA have been covered - but it is not where he became notable. So calling him an "Argentinian-born British-American" is not needed. You may not believe this, but I emailed Dominic Miller yesteday and asked him. He answered. How cool is that? He responded: "I consider myself Argentine born British guitarist." Of course, you have only my word (I have the email headers as some proof) and the Wikipedia rules remains in place. Just thought you might be interested.

Sound perfectly plausible to me and thanks for getting that confirmed. British guitarist it is then - as we do not put the country where somebody is born in the WP:LEDE. Let's hope this settles it then. Karst (talk) 15:11, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

I can confirm the above info on how Miller considers himself. Rick Beato recently did a interview with Miller (which is on YT) where Miller mentions this during the course of the interview when they were addressing how and where he grew up.THX1136 (talk) 16:19, 11 October 2023 (UTC)

Couple things: 1) Do we need to write that Sting is famous? 2) Who has released the solo albums? Rufus or Dominic? “He” in that last sentence is nebulous, so it needs to be cleared up whether Dominic or Rufus has released solo albums. I linked the word sideman, because it has a specific technical meaning, which I had not heard before. It might still be a little demeaning, given that Miller has been playing with Sting for over 30 years - so hardly just a session guy, occasionally slotted in for a few gigs.
