Santo Domingo

The source by prd.org.do (originally added by 93.136.53.148) does not state that the Dominican Republic derived directly from his name (Domenico), instead, the "City of Santo Domingo" (in which the Dominican Republic derives its name from). Also, it never mentions "island of the Dominican Republic" in which 131.179.30.25 made changes to state incorrectly from the source that says verbatim:

"La ciudad originariamente llamada, "La Nueva Isabela, Santo Domingo del Puerto de la Isla de la Española. El nombre, Santo Domingo es un misterio, se cree, fue en honor a Domingo (padre de Colón); otros sostienen que Bartolomé, indeciso sobre el nombre, vió en el calendario que el 8 de agosto era dedicado a Santo Domingo de Guzmán, y así la llamó."

Translation: "The city originally called, The New Isabela, Santo Domingo of the Port of the Island of Hispaniola. The name, Santo Domingo is a mystery, it is believed, was in honor to Domingo (father of Columbus); Others argue that Bartolomé, undecided about the name, saw in the calendar that August 8 was dedicated to Santo Domingo de Guzman, and so he called. [sic]"

Also, Santo Domingo was used for the "whole island" at one point, moreso than "Hispaniola". Savvyjack23 (talk) 22:49, 11 August 2017 (UTC)
