Why are minority ethnic groups classified as "Chinese"

edit

I'm not sure why the beliefs and mythologies of non-Chinese groups are included in a page on Chinese mythology. Ogress smash! 17:37, 11 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Generally, the word "Chinese" admits of various definitions. Among them are people or groups of people who live, or had lived, in the approximate area of China. This includes a "Han" major ethnicity, and various minority ethnicities. For various reasons, including shared geographical circumstance and culture, the academic studies of Chinese mythology include a very diverse group of people(s) under the definition of "Chinese". The use of "Chinese" linguistically to refer to a certain group of writers/speakers of an assumed mutual language is even more to explain. The point is, Wikipedia articles are supposed to follow the lead of their reference sources, as in this article. Dcattell (talk) 20:51, 14 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Reply:Why Northern Irish、Welsh、Manx、Scot classified as "Britons"? Why Ainu、Ryukyuan classified as "Japanese"? “Chinese”means “people of China”,China is a definition of country/state,NOT ethnic group, just because nearly 95 per cent Chinese are HAN PEOPLE,that you think “Chinese” equal“Han people”。So when we talk about mythology of “China”、“UK”、“France”,we will add “Mongol mythology”、“Irish mythology”、“Breton mythology— Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.96.50.73 (talk) 19:02, 24 July 2018 (UTC)Reply
