Anticipating feedback edit

"Dying under mysterious circumstances". That's a phrase for a detective story. It might mean "killed, but nobody could prove it", or it might mean "committed suicide", or it might mean "had a run-in with organized crime" or...who knows?

The Internet Movie Database quote does not help. It doesn't explain anything about the situation.

I don't often use this word, but my overall impression of this article is that it is flippant. Not respectful. Too much hype, and not enough about the person. Wikipedia isn't the place for fond eulogies. And it's not a place to gloss a person's real accomplishments and problems. It's an encyclopdia.

Without raising feathers, it seems that a number of the really central aspects of her life are missed in a sort of mix of quick-and-ready facts found on the Internet.

From this article, I don't feel I know anything about her, as a person, or as an actress. In fact, this article seems almost to "dance around the facts". For example, it's important that Darla's mother started her training...and that's totally appropriate for the article. But I have no "picture" of her. Was her mother "driving" her all the way through her career? Was Darla a professional actress all her life? Or did she really have to earn her living some way else? Why was she singing on record? Was that aspect of her life successful?

The "In Popular Culture" section is another name for "Trivia". As with trivia, the idea is to work the information into the body of the article -- or to omit it entirely.

There are over a dozen "peacock" words that are contrary to Wiki style guidelines WP:PEACOCK. Start by removing them, and the article will be on its way to giving her a fair treatment.

How could Spanky MacFarland attribute, in a speech, his own death to a broken heart? That makes NO sense.

Date and Year of Birth? edit

This doesn't appear to be correct. This contradicts the date given in the Internet Movie Data Base and other sources. A direct source, the birth year 1931 is on her tomb at Hollywood Forever Memorial Park. T.E. Goodwin (talk) 13:02, 20 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • The birthdate is correct, November 4th. However, the correct birth year is 1931. Definitive source: Forever Hollywood Cemetery website.http:\\ www.hollywoodforever.com T.E. Goodwin (talk) 21:25, 27 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
    • I don't want to start an edit war, but according to the Social Security death index, Darla was born in 1930. [1] JHVipond (talk) 21:48, 27 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Well, since she died at age 47, she never collected any social security benefits personally. Perhaps her family collected the $250.00 burial benefit. In any event, are we to trust that the SSDI is more accurate then the cemetery record at Hollywood Forever? The date on her tomb is 1931 after all. T.E. Vandalism edit

At least two anonymous editors, known only by their IP addresses, have vandalized this article. They are falsely claiming that Darla Hood is still alive. I would try to revert the vandalism, but I don't want to risk a conflict with someone else's edit. JHVipond (talk) 20:57, 15 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
