MoMA donation details? edit
Has anyone seen details online for a citation to support assertion that Leab left a huge collection of film-related materials to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City? "Leab" does not come up when searching within MoMA's website itself. Notation by his wife on 2/10/2018: The collection was given while he was still alive. William Murphy, formerly of the National Archives, did the appraisal for tax purposes. Six people came from MoMA and took away the films, books and editing equipment. The operation was overseen by MoMA's magnificent film curator, Anne Morra. I do not know what MoMA policy is concerning donors and database records. However, it is not uncommon for donor information not to show in online databases. An example is Watsonline. We gave a large collection of books by and about Paul Klee to the Thomas Watson Library at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the gift was acknowledged at length in one of the museum's publications. However, if you search Watsonline the only trace you will find of that gift is an item detailing a collection of 28 dust jackets taken from books donated by Katharine and Daniel Leab and put in a box.
