Notability? edit

I have restored the notability flag that was on this article before a SPA did a drive by removal. I'm unsure if two poems in plowshares, and one in an anthology, and two books on non-notable indy presses makes for notability. Not sure how it satisfies:

  1. The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors.
  2. The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory, or technique.
  3. The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series) or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews.
  4. The person's work (or works) either (a) has become a significant monument, (b) has been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) has won significant critical attention, or (d) is represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.

That said I'm mostly active in visual arts, so I defer to someone more active in literature. --Theredproject (talk) 01:53, 9 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Mira.nillson: this is the second time you have removed the notability flag without any discussion. You must discuss first here, and reach consensus. I would also encourage you to declare any conflicts of interest as you only seem to edit this one page, and are doing so with in a pointy way. --Theredproject (talk) 18:44, 22 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Verifiability in sources edit

Hello Dahlia.thymois. Thank you for your effort here. I want to clarify some of the revisions to your edits that I am about to make.

  1. You have cited the subject's biographical summaries as a source. The problem is that these are almost always self-authored text, and thus do not qualify as Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Or to put it another way, our problem is that we can't WP:VERIFY these grants: do you think that whomever prepared those two bio summaries did the research to fact check every claim in them?
  2. You have added in several additional publications that do not have Wikipedia articles. Generally the existence of a Wikipedia article is a decent yardstick for whether that entity should be referenced in a summary paragraph about an article subject. Hence, I have previously removed some of the ones you have added "PANK (magazine),Verse Daily, Diagram (magazine)" leaving "Ploughshares, Best American Poetry, storySouth, and elsewhere."
  3. If something you add meets the requirements for Wikipedia:Notability (periodicals) and should be in Wikipedia, you should leave that link as a red wiki link, rather than as an external link.

Feel free to ask questions here --Theredproject (talk) 16:54, 19 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello Theredproject, this is Dahlia. Thank you for reaching out to me. My aim at editing this page comes out of a deep respect for the work this person is doing as a writer and as a film producer. I'm a little confused as to why the Liza Jane project is not considered worthy of being listed on this page. The project has the backing of Women in Film & Video and features an important musician who does have a Wikipedia page (Cephas and Wiggins). As to PANK, Verse Daily, and Diagram -- these are all well known publications, I'd imagine with millions of hits, and have links to writing published by this author. Could you restore those magazine links and can you restore the documentary film listing? I see that you work in visual arts. Perhaps this is up your alley? (The film work.) I am not a very experienced Wikipedia editor but I cherish the Liza Jane songs and I find them to be of incredible cultural importance.
Unfortunately, I cannot verify through Maryland State Arts Council and Bread Loaf Writers' Conference the grants and awards but they are verified at several other sites. By all accounts, the credentials of this writer (Mr. Gutstein) tend to be confirmed everywhere I look.
Thank you for communicating with me about Wikipedia. I appreciate it and I'll bear these things in mind when editing other pages.
Please consider restoring the film link if nothing else. Thanks! --Dahlia.Thymois
Hello Dahlia.thymois, if you think that PANK (magazine),Verse Daily, and Diagram (magazine) should be included here, I welcome you to make pages for them. If the pages stick, then they should be in this bio. As I said before, a project that has a trailer, and a fiscal sponsor (which is the "backing" that WIFV is providing [1][2]) is not a finished work, and shouldn't be in this page because Wikipedia rules about WP:NOTPROMOTION; once it has premiered, it can be here. --Theredproject (talk) 02:10, 25 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
