DMS moniker. edit

Perhaps I'm wrong but I remember/thought the S stood for Split-entry, though it might be an urban myth, but when the self service machines were removed I seem to remember them becoming DM without the S.

With most london buses the first letter tended to indicate main model, a second letter describing the body, and a third letter describing variant. eg DRL = dennis Dart, Reeves-burgess body, Lengthened. DW = dennis Dart, Wright body. LA = dennis Lance, Alexander body LV = dennis Lance, Verde body.

Though the letters may be reversed, eg

VN = Volvo, Northern counties body double decker NV = Volvo, Northern counties single decker 82.33.140.88 (talk) 09:45, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for not getting back to you any earlier, I was pondering this for a while - its a tricky one, in all honesty, as I've not personally heard anything concrete about what 'DM' or 'DMS' officially meant at LT. Can't exactly say I was around when the DMS was new/in service, either. I'm just going off what the Wharmby book and Commercial Motor articles say, and I think Wharmby too doubts what 'DMS' stands for somewhat. Maybe the London Transport Museum might clear it up?
