Nice if someone could write a short summary of the contents of the links and put it under the headlines on this page

non-island nation

Vietnam is the only non-island nation of Indochina.......? What the hell does this mean? is there an island nation in indochina? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.133.219.241 (talk) 23:23, 10 September 2009 (UTC)

Bhadani edits

  • I have created certain sections and the texts in present form have been just placed there. The current texts are fine. Slight rewording is required, including some changes in Media section. I will try to do whatever I am able to do. Others interested in the topic should feel free to reedit my edits.--Bhadani 02:29, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Clothing section

...hello...One of the edits were false, stating that women did not traditionally wear skirts. The "ao tu than" costume of Vietnamese women preceded even the "ao dai" and includd es a skirt, of course. I edited some of it, but the clothing section is still very incomplete. If anyone is up to it (with proper sources) - expansion on articles talking about ao tu than, etc. would be appreciated.

Religion

Edited the religion section - changing the link of "Mahayana Buddhism" so that it actually directed to "Mahayana Buddhism" and not the "Buddhism in Vietnam" page. While the latter page is very valuable, I added a bit about "Buddhism in Vietnam" with a link (directing to that page) to avoid confusion.

Vandalization

This page has obviously been vandalized. I'm not normally a Wikipedia contributor, so I don't quite know how to restore it. If someone else could do it that would be fantastic. Many thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 158.143.173.21 (talk) 23:08, 16 January 2007 (UTC).

phat phuc

is this image really appropriate? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Noodle_bar.jpg seems it's just for some white kid's amusement. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 151.201.5.127 (talk) 14:17, 3 March 2007 (UTC).

It may be a joke, but slapping a {{db}} tag on the image itself was inapropriate and was contested. For future reference, if you feel an image does not belong in an article, just remove the image from the article. Since the image itself, and the reason given ("racist") do not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, the {{db}} tag has been removed. --Edokter (Talk) 00:41, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Ancestor Reverence

The following statement might be inaccurate: "In Vietnamese society there are 9 distinct generations. Virtually all commemorations and celebrations within a clan follow the principles of these nine generations."

To my understanding, Vietnamese culture only revere ancestors up to the 5th generation prior to. I don't believe relatives more distant than that are even generally known, let alone revered. Le Anh-Huy 11:21, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Article tone

I've made a few edits to this article, notably in the Cuisine section (which had a tone warning on it) and a few others; I just wanted to point out that there are several parts of this article that could use clean-up and expansion. I've added the tone template to the "Society" section, because certain phrases sound more like they came from a marketing brochure rather than an encyclopedia:

Travelling to Vietnam means going on a trip to explore a different interesting culture.

The culture is like a vast ocean of people.

Hopefully someone who has a little more knowledge of Vietnamese culture than I do can come in and work on this article a little more. —dragfyre 21:32, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Just placing a few links here, to two "Culture" articles that have reached "Good article" status: Culture of the Song Dynasty and Society and culture of the Han Dynasty --dragfyre (talk 20:38, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Culture of China is B-class... --dragfyre (talk 20:44, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Yue People

There's constant debate going on with the Chinese reference, the fact that Vietnamese people were influenced heavily by Chinese culture because of 1000 years of domination. Perhaps these Chinese-like part of our culture is just that - Chinese-like. It could have been ours to begin with, and perhaps the Chinese were influenced heavily by them. See Yue peoples. twinqletwinqle (talk) 07:19, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Clarity

Greetings, The following sentence makes little sense as written. Can someone with knowledge of the subject try to clarify it a bit, with good grammar and usage of course? "Some mountainous places exists "Tao Hon" because one of the couples are too young to get married just 13 or 14 years old." Thanks. 2601:141:8100:5C70:D5E1:5371:4807:2806 (talk) 18:08, 27 April 2020 (UTC)

Section on Teeth Blackening and Hairstyle and anti-Vietnamese sentiment from the Chinese perspective

This section clearly had many social issues present. I have re-edited it. Before however there were many clear signs of anti-Vietnamese sentiment that was directed heavily from a Chinese perspective. If this article could be locked down such that it does not get vandalised any further that will be great. Introductionneeded (talk) 17:21, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Reclassification of "Feudal customs"

@115.64.55.137: Regarding your re-sectioning here and here, the 19th century-modern clothing does not fall under "Feudal customs", while the material about tattoos and social stratification do not fall solely under "Hairstyle". — MarkH21talk 19:47, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

As explained here, at User:MarkH21#Culture talks, and at User talk:115.64.55.137#October 2020, this is inappropriate resectioning material about tattoos and social stratification under the label "Hairstyles".
The added "However" here is also inappropriate because one cannot imply a relationship where none exists in the original cited reference. That is against the policy against synthesis and the guideline against editorializing.
The removal of the pre-existing academic material from the Indo-Pacific Prehistory Association / Australian National University is also unwarranted. It is a description of neighboring relations / frictions with their neighbors from a cultural standpoint and is from an academic source. It's not asserting that the ancient Chinese description was somehow correct, it is an attributed mention of the description in the context of feudal cultural customs. — MarkH21talk 21:06, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
This is one of the few parts of the article that is solidly sourced to academic references. Please present arguments based in reliable sources if challenging the existing material.
If there is a sentence that is cited to a specific reference, don't insert material not from that reference into that sentence. — MarkH21talk 21:47, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
