I am letting someone else decide about this, I would just like to say that to me bleacherreport is not a reliable source. It is a place were you can join and as a user "publish your own articles and share with friends". So it sounds like you can write your own article, were is the "verifying of source" in the article. As I said, to me not reliable source (concerns has been raised by others at WP:RSN). QED237 (talk) 22:35, 8 June 2014 (UTC)
Bleacherreport is the worst site on the internet and of course not a RS. If you find other sources we can talk again about including it into the article, but as of now, no. Kante4 (talk) 22:43, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Cristiano began playing football with a club at the age of 6 not 8

The error is in his Youth Career, it says he played for his first club Andorinha from 1993-1995 but really he began at the age of 6 in 1991, so he was there from 1991-1995.

& Early career: At the age of eight, Ronaldo played for amateur team Andorinha (six)

This video is on his life and is done in conjunction with his family.

I havn't found one all pages don't have years when he was at the club, the only pages that do are Wikipedia and those websites like Evi who take information off this website, sometimes with links in other matters you can have a few different answers from different websites, where as this is a proper documentary on his life. His family have had input in the film so it's as accurate as it gets, surely thats a good enough source???

Best all-time

Ronaldo is widely credited as the best footballer in the world right now, while regarded by some as the greatest of all time , i don't find any reason in showing that " He is regarded by some in the sport to be currently the best player in the world." Please edit this statement. I think there are many who consider him as the greatest all time.

First of all there is absolutely no reason to write the exact same thing twice. Secondly it is not clear exactly what you want to be done. That statement is correct and sourced. All sources say he is one of the best right now and no one says all-time best. QED237 (talk) 11:53, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Ronaldo has won European Golden Shoe 3 times, which is a record shared with lionel messi, so it should be mentioned in the category of records in europe. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Golden_Shoe — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.49.42.114 (talk) 16:01, 14 June 2014 (UTC)

Everyone knows that only messi and ronaldo has won the european golden shoe thrice, and it is a record, if wikipedia is not considered as a reliable source then, there is no point of this "free encyclopedia" that does not contain actual facts and records. I have seen it as a one of the record in lionel messi's article, but why is it not mentioned as a record in ronaldo's? If wikipedia is not a reliable source , how can we depend on this site for informations??

Lionel Messi	3	2009–10, 2011–12, 2012–13

Europe → Footballer who always scoring goal in six major tournaments: Euro and World Cup (shared with Jurgen Klinsmann and Miroslav Klose)

Portugal → First footballer who scoring goal in three different FIFA World Cup finals

@Adamafandi: Ronaldo isn't the first footballer to score at three FIFA World Cup finals (see 2014 FIFA World Cup statistics § Multiple World Cups). As for that other statistic I'm not really sure what to make of it. Davykamanzitalkcontribsalter ego 22:59, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

Ronaldo donating the money from his Golden Boot award to children in Gaza is unsubstantiated.

For one, RT isn't exactly a reliable source. Secondly, there's really no other reliable sources confirming it. Infact, it's unlikely he did.

"Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo is reported to have auctioned the European Golden Boot that he won in 2011 with the La Liga club, handing the proceeds, said to be around £1.4 million, to a cause supporting Palestine children.

Rumours of the Portuguese superstar’s generosity kicked off on Twitter earlier today, with handles like Football Jokes tweeting about Ronaldo’s auctioning of his Golden Shoe.

This was followed by a few articles on sites like Target Football, which said that Ronaldo had raised the funds through the club’s charity foundation to help schools in the troubled Gaza city.

However, the story reeks of a hoax, with neither Real Madrid’s official site validating the news, nor any major Spanish daily covering it, as reported in many of the articles reporting the story. Also, the likelihood of Indonesian site Tribunnews being one of the first to report the news of Ronaldo’s ‘generous donation’ makes the whole story more make-believe than genuine news.

No confirmation has come from Ronaldo’s official Twitter handle either.

Also supporting claims of a falsification are stories in the past that have linked Lionel Messi with the Palestinian cause, which later have been called by many sections of the media as a hoax." - http://www.sportskeeda.com/football/ronaldos-golden-rumour-unlikely-to-be-true/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Knightmare72589 (talkcontribs) 18:03, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Sorry for making unclear, this should be better.

Ronaldo has won the Goal 50 award 3 times but does not have it listed in his individual honour's. It is a prestigious award and does deserve to be listed. His winnings should be presented like this under the Individual Honour's section:

Goal 50-(3)-2008,2012,2014

Question: Are you sure it is really an honour and do you have source saying he has got it? QED237 (talk) 22:01, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Yes I am sure, it is on the Goal.com website: http://www.goal.com/en/news/2466/goal-50/2014/07/28/4909367/cristiano-ronaldo-wins-goal-50?ICID=PP_1945

The Real Madrid Facebook page put up a picture and status about Ronaldo winning it.

On the Real Madrid website there is an article about Ronaldo winning this award: http://www.realmadrid.com/en/news/2014/07/cristiano-ronaldo-receives-the-goal-50-award-as-the-worlds-best-player-during-the-2013/14-season

It also made headlines in small sporting websites, magazines and newspapers including; sportingNews.com, Leadership Newspapers, Yahoo sports News, and, insidespanishfootball.com.

The Goal 50 award is also mentioned on other sites which can be found.

Cristiano Ronaldo himself received the award and had an interview, stating he is a proud winner of the Goal 50 award.

I know you are trying to be extra careful to put worthy things on this page and I really thing this is worthy.

The personal life section could use a slight tweak - right now it says: "Ronaldo announced that he had become a father on 3 July 2010. His official Facebook and Twitter pages refer to the birth of his son and request privacy," however, this might give the impression of his son being born on 3 July, which is not the case as evidenced by other news reports, but also by the very reference used for this part of the article. Getting rid of the second sentence (which I feel don't need to be included anymore) altogether and changing the first into something along the lines of "Ronaldo became a father in June 2010" would present a much clearer picture, and also tie in with the following sentence (The child named Cristiano...). 89.176.87.169 (talk) 06:33, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Not done: Unfortunately, we don't have a birth date for his child, so we don't know if indeed he was born in June or July. The current wording is not incorrect, whereas the proposed version could be. Cannolis (talk) 21:41, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
But we do have a birth date for the child. We have a ref with it in the article right now. In fact it is the source used for the sentences mentioned above (459 Baby joy). Hence my original call for the inclusion of the June birthdate as opposed to the July announcement from the same article. Because while perhaps 'not incorrect', the wording is misleading at best, with 'Ronaldo became a father on 3 July' being the first meaning - at least in my opinion - to pop into a reader's mind rather than 'Ronaldo's announcement of his fatherhood came on 3 July'. The former provides an incorrect interpretation, and the latter skips the relevant bit about the birth and only talks about its making public.
However, while all that might be subjective, the baby's birth in June is not, which to me is enough to warrant clearing up the wording. If for some reason or other an exact date is required to have this section less ambiguous, then here's a couple of sources saying June 17: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1295678/Mother-Cristiano-Ronaldos-baby-American-waitress-seduced-night-stand.html and http://edition.cnn.com/2014/07/14/world/europe/cristiano-ronaldo-fast-facts/.
So anyway I guess the edit request now actually looks like this: "Ronaldo announced that he had become a father on 3 July 2010. His official Facebook and Twitter pages refer to the birth of his son and request privacy." -> "Ronaldo became a father on June 17 2010 following the birth of a son." 89.176.87.169 (talk) 20:42, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Ronald Reagan: Cristiano Ronaldo's fathers favorite actor?

I have some doubts about this part of this article. I am very new to Wikipedia editing, talk, etc, so please let me know if I do anything wrong or what you think!

His second given name "Ronaldo" was chosen after then-U.S. president Ronald Reagan, who was his father's favourite actor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristiano_Ronaldo#Early_life

I do not doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo is named after Ronald Reagan, I do doubt that it was because of Reagans acting career instead of the (in my opinion) much more logical explanation that it might have been the fact that he was president of the United States at the time Cristiano Ronaldo was born (5 February 1985). Ronald Reagans real acting career (you can find this here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Reagan#Entertainment_career) ended around 1945. After that he did some small movies but mainly worked as a hired actor for General Electrics. Assuming that Cristiano Ronaldo's father was at most 40 years old when Cristiano was born, he himself was born around 1945, so he must have been very young when Reagan already stopped acting.

I think it is highly unlikely that someone in Portugal would name his son after an American actor who stopped acting 40 years ago and whose movies never had real international exposure. I think it is much more likely he chose the name because Ronald Reagan was president of the United States.

To see if my theory is correct I tried looking up the Portugese Wikipedia (http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristiano_Ronaldo#In.C3.ADcio_da_carreira), and this one links the father's favorite actor explanation to the following BBC website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/3144881.stm.

This website says:

Named after Ronald Reagan, because his father was an admirer of the former US president and one-time actor, Ronaldo now has the chance to shine in his very own Theatre of Dreams

I think this this is a misquote in the Portugese Wikipedia, since it doesn't explicitly say that Ronaldo's father admired Reagan as an actor.

What do you guys think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.125.189.101 (talk) 20:03, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Not done: This is all quite well reasoned. However, the source used simply states "His father, José Dinis, named him after his favourite actor Ronald Reagan, who was US President at the time" and we must go by what reliable sources say. I think the use of "then-present" as we currently have in the article covers the fact that Reagan was the US president at the time. Cannolis (talk) 21:39, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

I am very sorry but where do you see that source? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.50.195.61 (talk) 16:39, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Is anyone ever going to answer this? Everytime I try to correct something on Wikipedia I have the idea idea that no one really cares, see commentary above.

Sorry, I didn't watch this page so did not see your question above. The source is already cited in the article at the end of that sentence. The link is: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2008/jun/08/manchesterunited.portugal
At the end of that piece is a "The Ronaldo Lowdown" section that says this. Cannolis (talk) 12:06, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

Yes Cannolis but as I mentioned before, that is in my opinion based on a MISQUOTE from the Portugese Wikipedia (here http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristiano_Ronaldo#In.C3.ADcio_da_carreira) incorrectly based on THIS earlier article http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/3144881.stm

Named after Ronald Reagan, because his father was an admirer of the former US president and one-time actor, Ronaldo now has the chance to shine in his very own Theatre of Dreams.

Nothing about favorite actor. Which makes sense because when Ronaldo was born Reagan hadn't acted for more than 40 years.

I'm confused. Are you saying that the Guardian article was based on a misquote from the Portugese Wikipedia article on Ronaldo? This article here on the English Wikipedia doesn't reference the Ronalda article on the Portuguese Wikipedia or the BBC article you're citing. It references another source altogether, which explicitly says "His father, José Dinis, named him after his favourite actor Ronald Reagan" Cannolis (talk) 11:52, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

(talk), I don't exactly know where this has gone wrong, I only know that the article the Portugese version quotes (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/m/man_utd/3144881.stm) doesn't say what the Portugese-wiki page states it does saying Ronald Reagan, que era o ator preferido do seu pai which means Ronald Reagan, who was his fathers favorite actor. The BBC article however does not say that: Named after Ronald Reagan, because his father was an admirer of the former US president and one-time actor, Ronaldo now has the chance to shine in his very own Theatre of Dreams. I think this misinterpretation, or whatever you would call it, has been on the internet for quite a while now (that article is from 2003), so it's not very hard to find a source which says that. However, I have not found any direct quote from Ronaldo or his manager saying that this was the reason, which makes the whole Reagan was his fathers favorite actor-story come off very unlikely to me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.46.123.98 (talk) 22:52, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Sure. However, this source very explicitly says that this is why his father named him that. And the Guardian is generally considered to be a reliable source on Wikipedia. The BBC article you are citing does not contradict this. Unless you have another reliable source that explicitly contradicts the Guardian, I am very much in support of the way the article here on the English Wikipedia says it. Cannolis (talk) 14:28, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Yes Cannolis, but don't you think it could be possible that the Guardian used Wikipedia as a source for this? Which would mean we are going in circles.. There is not direct interview of him saying that, this interview seems to tend more towards the other way, and to make it even more confusing I think he says here that it was more his mothers idea than his fathers idea, but my Spanish is not too good.

http://elpais.com/diario/2009/08/30/eps/1251613613_850215.html

— Preceding unsigned comment added by 145.18.95.121 (talk) 15:26, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure what methods the Guardian uses, but we do consider it a reliable source unless we have good reason to doubt a piece, e.g. them very blatantly copying content from us. This does not appear to be such a case. In any case, going back to your original request, I'm not sure what the problem is. The text doesn't say why exactly his father named him after Reagan, it just says that he did, and that Reagan was his father's favorite actor and the US president at the time. Cannolis (talk) 23:25, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Cannolis Well I still completely disagree because there is totally no real source which says that he was his favorite actor (stopped acting before the father was born, I tell you once again). But fine, whatever, I did my best to change this. I'm sure there will be an English interview eventually that will do away with this.

Okay. And when that happens, will be happy to make that change. Until then, I choose to trust the Guardian. Cannolis (talk) 12:22, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
Agree with @Cannolis: here. And what has the date of him stopped acting to do with that? Some people like Elvis or so, without ever seeing them "live"... Kante4 (talk) 12:51, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

The last line of his career history under 2014-2015 it states he is the only player with the FIFA Club World Cup who has won it twice with 2 different teams. Please change greatest of all time to one of the greatest of all time .

The link provided is not sufficient to give information that he is the greatest player of all times. Most of the quotes are from his manager, former manager, teammates and ex-teammates, agent. Currently best player in the world has no problem. There is no article by past greats that he is better than Diego Maradona or Pelé. So one of the greatest is right.

Thanks. ImmutableString (talk) 11:16, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Not done: as it clearly states "regarded by some in the sport". This includes his agents, ex Real Madrid legends etc. There are also many other individuals within the sport (non-teammates, journalists, etc.) who have proclaimed Cristiano Ronaldo as the "greatest" but the sources are trimmed down (I can provide you with more sources if you require, which confirm this)
This passage maintains parity with other footballing legends' articles, which uses the same parameters. Again, I would like to remind you that these are professional opinions and there is no consensus on the "greatest player", therefore the phrase "regarded by some in the sport" is used. -Imperial HRH2 (talk) 11:32, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Re-Edit: I can see that you also requested an edit on Talk:Lionel_Messi#Semi-protected_edit_request_on_16_January_2015 requesting his article to remove the phrase "greatest player of all time, along with rival Cristiano Ronaldo" to just "greatest player of all time" from the introduction. This makes your motive clear. -Imperial HRH2 (talk) 11:41, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Edit: There is no motive from my side. If its remain than I have no problem. But all time best and one of the best is different. Today ex-players or journalist or Manager call both player as best in their generations no doubt but most of them call Messi as greatest of all time alongside Maradona and Pele. That's my only point. It's an encyclopedia so we should put neutral point of view.User:ImmutableString (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 12:29, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

While I agree with some of your comments, many experts (Ronaldo's acquaintances in the sport and others too) are now of the opinion that he is the "greatest" after that 3rd Balon d' Or win. I know everyone has their opinion and you may not agree with this but the way the sentence is phrased, makes it clear. Lionel Messi's article also stated "one of the greatest" before we drew consensus that it should be "greatest". This was the reason we created a page dedicated to the rivalry. If it were the case (as you say) that Messi is way out in front of Ronaldo, there would be no rivalry to begin with. Most experts (and non-experts) now agree that Ronaldo is within the "greatest" bracket, along with rival Lionel Messi and older legends of the game. -Imperial HRH2 (talk) 15:40, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Hello, I think one sentence should be altered from 'Ronaldo is regarded by some in the sport to be currently the best player in the world and the greatest of all time,[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11] alongside rival Lionel Messi.' to 'Ronaldo is regarded by some in the sport to be currently the best player in the world and one of the greatest of all time,[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11] alongside rival Lionel Messi. The reason being that the quotes referenced are too few to merit a 'best of all time' claim. I would suggest that on the whole very few people would state Ronaldo is better than Maradona, Pele etc so I think 'one of the best' would be more accurate. I do realise that it says 'regarded by some', but by using a comment like this you can defend all sorts of assertions which are not very accurate. Thank you. Zopaliar (talk) 09:50, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Not done: Please read previous discussions (some archived). This case has been argued multiple times. The sources are only a small selection and more sources exist, which contradict your "too few sources" claim. I mean, we have already referenced 8 sources, which we believe to be enough. The exact same argument was used when Lionel Messi's page was changed to "greatest" from "one of the greatest". Many people won't agree Messi is better than Pele or Maradona. But Messi and Ronaldo's articles don't talk about "many people" but "people in the sport". If you notice, before his 3rd Balon d'Or, Ronaldo's article stated "one of the greatest". Newer sources have been used after his last Balon d'Or win, which consider him in the "greatest" bracket. This issue has been discussed further and in great detail on Talk:Lionel Messi. Imperial HRH2 (talk) 10:11, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

Well that was a rather abrupt reply, which didn't actually address what I actually objected to. It seems this is a touchy subject and perhaps you are not objective enough to be editing on this page. I objected to 'the greatest of all time' part becasue there was only one or possibly two claims to back this up, both of which can be questioned regarding imaprtiality, surely you see this? Also, you claim there are more sources which back this up and which contradict my claim. Well forgive me if i am wrong, but I was merely commenting on the sentence as it is on the Wikipedia page along with the references. I see another commenter also objected to the sentence as there is a great difference between 'among the greatest' and 'the greatest'. I will await another user who does not have a clear bias to hopefully respond to my request for the sentence 'Ronaldo is regarded by some in the sport to be currently the best player in the world and the greatest of all time,[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11] alongside rival Lionel Messi.' to be changed to 'Ronaldo is regarded by some in the sport to be currently the best player in the world and one of the greatest of all time,[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11] alongside rival Lionel Messi.' (talk) 12:21, 2 February 2015 (UTC) Zopaliar (talk) 13:18, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

I am sorry you felt the reply was abrupt. But I believe you already made the same request with a different account before. I gave my arguments, based on many sources (which are referenced, and more available on a simple Google search). Besides, I directed you to the Talk:Lionel Messi page where this has been discussed in GREAT detail, by a veteran editor @Carlos Rojas77:

Do you honestly not see the importance in distinguishing between the claim of 'one of the greatest' and 'the greatest'? (and the lack of credible references for the latter claim?) If not, then it clearly demonstrates an ugly partisanship on your part which should not be on wikipedia. Zopaliar (talk) 23:55, 2 February 2015 (UTC)

I am not going to argue with you anymore, so this is probably my last post. We get people asking for Messi's page to be changed to 'one of the greatest' too, but all requests are denied. And there are multiple requests from people like you who cannot leave their personal bias out. I didn't know that the BBC, Guardian, etc. were not credible sources, I'll look into "more credible sources". And finally, it does say 'regarded by SOME'. Wikipedia cannot make it more clear. Imperial HRH2 (talk) 19:06, 3 February 2015 (UTC)

Are you honestly not aware that you are blatantly demonstrating bias? To make it clear for you (as you seem to be avoiding anything factual that backs up my point) I will talk you through it. The 'credible' quotes, well the BBC quote is a comment from Raul where he says 'Cristiano Ronaldo could become the best footballer of all time'. I hope you understand the difference between 'could become' and 'is'. Second reference, the Guardian article, which states that Ronaldo overtakes Messi as the best in the world, at the time of writing, no mention of greatest of all time. The same for the Pele quote, he is referring to Ronaldo as the best currently. Where exactly are these credible quotes claiming Ronaldo is the greatest of all time that you mention? From your references it seems you are only left with quotes from a team mate and a compatriot. Zopaliar (talk) 11:00, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

As the request has not been fairly responded to, I ask for this one sentence to be altered from 'Often ranked as the best player in the world, alongside rival Lionel Messi, and rated by some in the sport as the greatest of all time,' to 'Often ranked as the best player in the world, alongside rival Lionel Messi, and rated by some in the sport as one of the greatest of all time,'. There is a clear lack of relevant references to support the 'rated by some in the sport as the greatest of all time' claim. Only a teammate and a fellow Portuguese coach's quote back up the claim, which is hardly enough for such a statement to be accepted as a widely held view.Zopaliar (talk) 12:08, 6 February 2015 (UTC)

Valid point regarding not stating he plays for Portugal. Obviously being captain implies that he plays for them, but i can see why not specifically stating it is an issue. Cristiano Ronaldo's Records

A little over a month ago, GiantSnowman removed most of the records on this page (as they lacked references). He did the same on Lionel Messi's page, but Messi's have now been back up with appropriate references. Since no one bothered to reinstate Ronaldo's records, I have decided to thoroughly update them, and with the appropriate references over the next few days (have only worked on 'World' and 'Europe' so far). While they might seem a bit comprehensive to some readers, consensus hasn't been established over how comprehensive those records can be ('Most consecutive goals scored in Champions League away matches', is this too comprehensive?). For now, I am taking Messi's page as an example, which seems to have every possible record listed. Imperial HRH2 (talk) 04:26, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
