Redirecting to Inspiral Carpets edit

Per the opinions given by mysely and others at the recent AfD, this article needs to be redirected to Inspiral Carpets, as the individual is not notable outside of his involvement with the band. --Rob Sinden (talk) 09:59, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

The result of the AFD was no consensus but the majority of the editors voted to keep the article as is. If a person has sources such the Guardian obituary [1] to show notability it is obvious they should have an article.--Racklever (talk) 11:22, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
The majority of the "keep" editors were not using guideline based arguments (and included a sock puppet and a couple of new editor/SPAs). The fact remains that his other exploits outside of being the Inspiral Carpets' drummer were not notable. --Rob Sinden (talk) 11:27, 1 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Your argument doesn't carry, simply because of the fact that there are countless other members of 'notable' bands that are not notable outside of the context of their respective bands, yet have discrete articles. Factor in the widespread reaction and activity after Mr Gill's death (both very well publicised nationwide, across a variety of media) and the argument to keep the article strengthens significantly, based on my former point. However it turns out, you will be under some pressure to recant your opinions, should the campaign to get their record to number one (or even anywhere nearby) in the UK at Christmas 2016 be a success, because it will be an historical event, based on the absolute fact that a very well thought of individual of the Manchester music scene has suddenly passed away. And people (not just parochially) felt strongly about that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AtheistMT (talkcontribs) 18:39, 2 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Firstly, WP:OTHERSTUFF. Secondly, WP:CRYSTAL. If the campaign is successful, this can still easily be included at Inspiral Carpets. This individual is not notable for anything outside of his membership of the band. --Rob Sinden (talk) 09:35, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
Failure to address my ongoing point around why members of other bands that have done nothing outside of those bands are considered notable, doesn't sustain your argument. It's perfectly fine to have rules and guidelines, but they have to be applied fairly and consistently. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AtheistMT (talkcontribs) 21:06, 5 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
That's because it's irrelevant. We're not discussing WP:OTHERSTUFF, we're discussing this article. If someone else isn't notable, that's something to be addressed at their page, not here. --Rob Sinden (talk) 08:58, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
  • Two points. Firstly. The article needs better sourcing. For an example on a good article on a drummer see for instance Matt Sorum or Brent Fitz. Secondly. The AfD is done. Time to WP:DROPTHESTICK for the moment. This is unlikely to reach consensus until the Christmas No. 1 campaign is over. Karst (talk) 22:23, 6 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
The outcome of the AfD was to discuss the redirect at the talk page. This should never have been changed from a redirect in the first place. Death and a number of obituaries does not give someone automatic notability. The Christmas campaign should be included at Inspiral Carpets, not here. --Rob Sinden (talk) 08:54, 7 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
The outcome was no consensus with a suggestion to discuss a redirect. There are no redirect tags. The discussion above follows the same patterns as the AfD with no realistic prospect of consensus. Time to WP:DROPTHESTICK. Karst (talk) 10:41, 7 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
There needs to be more input - I'll place something at the relevant project page. --Rob Sinden (talk) 10:51, 7 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I would favour a merge to Inspiral Carpets, where those members for whom we have some detail should be discussed more fully in a members section. Boon and Hingley have done enough outside the band to have their own articles, so those should be summarised in the Carpets article, for the rest a section in the band article is sufficient. There certainly isn't enough for a standalone article here. --Michig (talk) 08:41, 8 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
