Tecnológico de Costa Rica

edit

Hi @Quecomelamaquina:, I reverted your edits, the Instituto Tecnológico de Costa Rica (ITCR) changed its name, logos and abbreviation YEARS ago, it is now just Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC), the "Instituto" word was dropped, it isn't part of its Spanish name therefore the English translation shouldn't include it. --Roqz (talk) 15:04, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Just another note, as per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) and Wikipedia:Official names, the branding/marketing/popular name has precedence over the juridical name, I don't like the translation to english either (perhaps Costa Rica Technological is more appropriate), and would like to keep the "Institute" as part of the name (as an alumni of more than 10 years ago, my diploma does say ITCR), but they changed it and Wikipedia should adapt to it. Also, I added a section in history about the name change. --Roqz (talk) 16:08, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Roqz:. According to the Official style guide of TEC(page 14), the name in English should be Costa Rica Institute of Technology. The objective of this is to coincide with the name used in scientific publications made by TEC researchers. Some examples of post-2010 publications using the correct English name

@Quecomelamaquina: Thanks! I was looking for a reference like that, I will make the proper changes, and cite this reference. --Roqz (talk) 18:50, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Costa Rica Institute of TechnologyTechnological of Costa Rica – Name and institutional identity changed (See WP:NAMECHANGES) since 2010, HOWEVER as per WP:ENGLISH a good english translation is required, I request the input of native english speakers, some alternatives could be:

  • Technological of Costa Rica
  • Technologic of Costa Rica
  • Costa Rica Technologic
  • Costa Rica Technological

Official identity guide of TEC:

Some random secondary sources (in spanish) using the 'new' name, for many years now:

According to the Official style guide of the university the name in English is Costa Rica Institute of Technology. As a result, there should not be any name change. Quecomelamaquina (talk) 18:48, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

As as source was provided, there is consensus that the English name shouldn't be changed. --Roqz (talk) 19:06, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

Costa Rica Institute of TechnologyTechnological of Costa Rica – name changed since 2010, "Instituto" word was dropped, somebody reverted to the old name disregarding the new brand, and now I can't do a simple move, the current name and brand can be checked at www.tec.ac.cr, and a couple of (in spanish) secondary sources using the current name: Tecnológico de Costa Rica cumple 47 años de impulsar el conocimiento, TEC no aplicará examen de admisión: Así será el nuevo mecanismo de selección Roqz (talk) 15:44, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:23, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Anthony Appleyard: I proposed the move, but User:Quecomelamaquina provided an official statement of the proper name in English, and I now stand by that properly referenced nomenclature and updated the article accordingly and no longer will pursue the article move/rename, could you help us in removing the requested move notice? Thanks. --Roqz (talk) 21:12, 11 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
