And I repeat the comment above - When adding notable alumni please ensure you provide references to independent sources (e.g. newspaper articles, books) to verify their attendance. For information on how to do this, take a look at Help:Referencing for beginners. Please note entries must also meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines. This is best done by first creating an article about them. Without following these guidelines an editor could add anyone to these lists, including people who don't exist. Proposed merge with Notable alumni col. brown school edit

notable alumni of a school should not be listed in a separate article. Skr15081997 (talk) 06:43, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Delete notable alumni page and salvage entries to this talk page which aren't listed above. Appears that several users bypassed Dougweller's semi-protection of this page in order to continue adding unreferenced, unverifiable alumni entries. While I much admire the enthusiasm and creativity of the editors alumni entries must comply with WP:V. This has been said several times now. In effect each entry must have a citation to a secondary source verifying their attendance at the school (if it isn't already confirmed on their respective Wikipedia articles). I assume the edits were made in good faith. Duffit talk 11:19, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Merge The list page appears to have been created to skirt the protection of this page, and as a result keep getting filled up with inappropriate entries that violate WP:NLIST. I !vote to merge the verifiable stuff back here. I'll do it in a few days if there are no objections here. --Ahecht (TALK

Failed Citation Verifications edit

In reviewing the citations given for notable alumni, several of the citations do not establish that the listed person attended the Colonel Brown Cambridge School. A citation that just verifies the person's position, without verifying that they attended the school, is not sufficient. Entries without a citation that verifies that they attended the school will be deleted.

  • Muhammad Ayub Khan - Citation appears to have been copied from the Ayub Khan (President of Pakistan) article and never mentions schooling. In fact, the article only talks about events that happened when Ayub Khan was over 50 years old.
  • Yahya Khan - Citation appears to have been copied from Yahya Khan article. A search for the word "Brown" or "Brown's" in that book on Google Books returns several results [1][2], but none of them refer to the Col Brown Cambridge School.
  • Virbhadra Singh - Citation appears to have been copied from the Virbhadra Singh article. The source mentions the Bishop Cotton School and St Stephen College, but not the Col Brown Cambridge School.
  • Meiyang Chang - Citation appears to have been copied from the Meiyang Chang article. A google translation of the article (which is about the "Indian Idol" TV show) never mentions Meiyang Chang's schools/
  • Randhir Kapoor - Citation appears to have been copied from the Randhir Kapoor article. The linked excerpt doesn't mention schools at all. A Google Books search [3] of the source book "The Kapoors: The First Family of Indian Cinema" only mentions Raj Kapoor (who is separately listed under notable alumni) attending the Colonel Brown school, not Randhir Kapoor.

If these citations are not replaced with citations that establish that these people attended the school, these entries will be deleted. Thank you. --Ahecht (TALK

Thanks. Do you have any idea why Ayn Rand's Howard Roark was added? Dougweller (talk) 15:55, 1 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
It appears to be part of the same list that kept being pasted to List of notable alumni of the Colonel Brown Cambridge School by various users. I don't know what the origin of that list is (maybe a school newsletter?), but I certainly can't find any evidence from Google Books that the school was ever mentioned in The Fountainhead (which is a moot point anyway, since even if he did attend the school he would belong in a "in popular culture" section, not in a "notable alumni" section). --Ahecht (TALK

Based on the recent edit that ended in "March 26 at 8:13pm · Like", it appears that this list is being copied from facebook or a blog that uses facebook like buttons. --Ahecht (TALK
