Talk:College GameDay (basketball TV program)

Issue edit

Any reason why people decided to make up 2008 Gameday games? At least cleanup the USC-UCLA game considering ESPN does not even have a contract with the Pac 10.

– There are several sports-related TV programs that are awaiting a "permanent" naming solution, so I'm going to start with these two as the "test case". Both of these are American TV series, and both air on ESPN, so they can't be disambiguated from each other by either "country" or "network". Disambiguating them by year is effectively not WP:RECOGNIZABLE. So, the "best" way to disambiguate these is, actually, "by sport"! As per WP:NCTV, we should add the word "TV program" to these, to make clear to readers that this isn't something else (e.g. a radio program or a book, or whatever), so I'm proposing these be moved to include "TV program" in the disambiguation. --IJBall (contribstalk) 17:56, 1 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

  • Support - I've thought a lot about this since I knew this was going to eventually turn up. As IJBall says, country, network and "genre" are the same so can't be used. Year can be used, and maybe it should, as it technically can work, but it probably would not help a lot. It seems for sport shows from the same source this would probably be the best option. Weaker support for year if that is where the consensus goes. --Gonnym (talk) 07:17, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, that's where I am – this proposal is better than "by year" disambiguation (by a lot in this case, IMO), but "by year" follows NCTV so is an OK second choice.... --IJBall (contribstalk) 12:32, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
  • Support - while I strongly suspect the football program is a solid primary topic, this move is at least more correct for now. -- Netoholic @ 20:54, 2 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
