The play edit

A switch in the article from Efftee Film Productions to Efftee Studios led me to look back at the article on the play I'd used (see External links), which had called it "the very worthy project of Mr. F. W. Thring, managing director of Efftee Film Productions". While the Studios is probably the "Studio", .... Well, I intend to incorporate the above quote and more into the new section on the play.

I come here because another issue's developed. The Age, the source of the above quote and most of what's in the external link, I've just now identified as being from Melbourne. The paper's story did not identify the location of the Garrick Theatre, where the play was being produced. I took a chance in the EL identifying it as Garrick Theatre (Guildford); Guildford I've now learned is a suburb of Perth (quite far from Melbourne I've also now learned). From what I saw, it's almost certainly the venue we're talking about here, though I could be wrong. IF it is right, then the identification of the play's venue as in Melbourne of course would be wrong. The potential confusion is compounded because the wonderful (RIP) obituary of Beatrice Day now cited in the Play section is datelined Melbourne (via Sydney Morning Herald). All I can imagine is that by the time the actress died 5 Sep., maybe she'd been moved from Guildford/Perth to the Melbourne hospital mentioned in the Herald. In The Age article (Aug. 28), Day had already been stricken with "the sudden and serious illness", so perhaps there was time and call for such a move. This is pure speculation on my part as I try to work this out. In light of all this, while I'm at it, there's another bit from The Age I would want to incorporate in the article: Nellie Mortyne, also seen that same year in Waltzing Matilda (1933 film) I've now learned, stepped in for Day as the "Countess of Drumoor" (v. listing as "Lady Drumoor" in the article; don't know my protocols to know how that duality could be resolved).

I anticipate incorporating all of what I started (a little awkwardly, I acknowledge) as an external link into the appreciated, new Play section, but try to resolve the uncertainties above before doing so. Thanks for any help. Swliv (talk) 23:48, 10 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
