Talk:Clap note

Notability edit

The fact that the term "clap note" is uncommon and that few people search for the term on Google is insufficient justification to exclude it from a public educational forum.

By the same token, the term "sale leaseback"—a real estate ownership strategy that is about 50 years old and has been used by major corporations for a long time, but has only entered the public consciousness within the past 10 years or so would have never become known.

The only reason I can imagine why someone would want to hide information about this financing method is because they have a personal interest in keeping the strategy secret from the general public.

What about the term "investment club"? That is also a relatively unknown concept for which there is obviously no Wikipedia entry as yet. Are we going to delete the first article about investment clubs that someone contributes. How about "Conduit Loans" or "Self-directed IRAs"? These terms have been around for a long time but are only recently becoming known to the public.

It is clear that banks, brokerage houses, insurance companies and those who work for them are not keen on people finding out about alternative, unconventional investment instruments and systems—especially if these yield higher returns than the vehicles they offer. It would not be surprising if they were the ones primarily responsible for suppressing the dissemination of information about these alternatives. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 162.83.166.74 (talkcontribs) .

I prod'ed that article. Actually, there is an article about investment clubs, a whole stack of articles about Individual Retirement Accounts, and conduit loans are mentioned in the Commercial mortgage article. I don't know what a conduit loan is, but there are many thousands of google hits for that term - unlike clap note. Articles on Wikipedia must be verifiable, see WP:V. You ought to read WP:AGF too. Unless decent sources appear, I shall take the article to WP:AFD. Mr Stephen 10:38, 19 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
