Tribe history? edit

The only information I have on this tribe was in a very early 1970s National Geographic article by Jesco von Puttkamer. At that time, a FUNAI unit was working in the area to "pacify" the tribe (their term - it sounds demeaning). While there had been some interaction, mainly by some younger males, the article concludes with the status that the tribe had not yet allowed a visit by FUNAI to one of their villages. One of the FUNAI team remarked to Jesco that the Cinta Largas believed they were pacifying the FUNAI team.

From the scant amount in this article, I can infer that some sort of contact has been made, the language barrier breached, and there is a limited degree of conflict between the tribe and the cultures outside their society. However, this article would be much more useful if it outlined the history of development since that initial attempt by FUNAI to establish a relationship with the tribe: when the tribe's leaders understood the purpose of the FUNAI team, when some sort of territory was established that the tribe had exclusive rights in, and to what degree they recognized any need to respect people who did not enter that territory. All I can infer is that the tribe still does not recognize any authority outside their own, and is not "at peace" with the outside such that they would go through official processes to deal with trespasses and encroachments. Malaria edit

Explorers who entered this area were always plagued by cases of malaria, especially in the era before modern malaria treatments were developed. How did members of the tribe survive constant malaria infections? Did they develop genetic resistance to malaria, over many generations? 2601:281:D880:7880:E029:A5AE:18BC:82F3 (talk) 16:45, 9 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
