Christopher Drew (reporter)

edit

Let's discuss explicitly, to do this better than in edit summaries. This is to follow up on several edits at article, including one by me with edit summary "(Undid revision 674625075. It's a valid redlink, supported per DAB requirements by a bluelink. Check and you will see the red link has incoming links to it. Discuss at Talk?)". The entry version I put in was:

in which the first link was a red-link, supported by the bluelink that went to an article that used the redlink in context. This was valid per disambiguation page rules, which allow a redlink if and only if it is supported by a bluelink that uses the redlink in context, as covered at MOS:DABRL (specific instructions on this point exactly).

This was replaced by this edit with summary "Well, in that case, I created a redirect that points exactly to his entry, instead of forcing readers to search for it on a long page". Technically that is not correct. The redirect no longer shows as a redlink, removing the correct message to readers that there is a valid topic needing an article. The current Christopher Drew (reporter) redirect, which goes to Investigative Reporters and Editors#1998Books is technically incorrect, as it does not go to an article on Christopher Drew, and it is unhelpful to readers. It brings anyone clicking on that term at any one of 7 articles:

to the usage of the term in just one of the articles. It does not provide information on who Christopher Drew is, while the bluelink at eaqch of the 7 articles suggests it would. A redlink, on the other hand, would properly indicate that an article is deemed to be needed, but has not been created, and will properly invite anyone to create a proper article.

As it happens, there's a ban in effect on me that prevents me from just starting the article in mainspace. I should have appealed and gotten the ban removed, but have not done so.

To resolve this, Oiyarbepsy, could you please do me the favor and just start the article. I.e. edit the redirect you created, and paste in the following starter text:

"Christopher Drew is an investigative reporter who has written on submarine espionage and on foodborne illness outbreaks, including on the 1996 Odwalla E. coli outbreak. His book Blind Man's Bluff: The Untold Story of American Submarine Espionage, published by Public Affairs Press, co-authored with Sherry Sontag and with Annette Lawrence Drew, won an Investigative Reporters and Editors certificate award in 1998. The IRE site describes their work as:

Drew was part of a Chicago Tribune team that started looking into secret, dangerous military maneuvers. Drew, now at The New York Times, teamed with Sontag, who has reported for The Times and the National Law Journal, to expand the Tribune series into something much more comprehensive. They worked the people trail beautifully, getting sources sworn to lifelong secrecy to open up. They used the Freedom of Information Act wisely. The writing is superb.[1]
