Parkhurst was not "discharged from the Navy for signing the Wiesbaden Manifesto." He served in the US Naval Reserves from 1943 until 1961 (1943-45 as a combat officer at sea; 1945-46 as deputy chief, MFA&A section in both US zones in Germany; released from active duty in 1946. The circumstances surrounding what came to be called the "Wiesbaden Manifesto" are covered in Lynn H. Nicholas, The Rape of Europa (Knopf, 1994), pp. 382-405.
