Default for Chaplin

Why should the default for Chaplin disambiguation come here? I would think that either the main article about Charlie Chaplin or the dismbiguation page itself would be a better choice. Or maybe even the yet-unwritten page that discusses the origin and functions of a chaplin would be a good choice. Bejnar 19:59, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Differences

"Although the film was criticized for taking dramatic licence with some respects of Chaplin's life..." Well what differences? Does anyone else think we should have a section explaining the differences between his life/autobiography and the film? Crazybilby (talk) 01:23, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

Crazy mental institutes

funny coincidence... in the film while still in England young Chaplin is seen pulling a cart of scrap mental up to the door of their apartment... close up of him going indoors.. and i think 'Gee.. the peeling paint on the front door, bet there was lead in it too, and gee, how many people died or got sick or went crazy!', then the scene shows him going up stairs and we're shown the leather gloves his Mum is making.. hmmm mercury! ..then the camera pans and there's Hannah near fetal position in the corner.. mad as a hatter!! makes one think... not genetic, but environmental....? 76.218.248.127 (talk) 06:41, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Casting - Peter Sellers was dead

How come it is mentioned that Peter Sellers were approached for the lead? If so, the production time must have been so long as 14-15 years (or more) because Peter Sellers died in 1980. Anyway the link to the name Peter Sellers is a link to Peter Sellers (1924-80) Is there another actor with the same name?

And is there any "behind the scenes" rationale for Tristar and Carolco wanting Crystal or Williams - neither of them seem likely because of their body-shape? #--d-axel (talk) 22:29, 17 October 2015 (UTC)

According to both the International Business Times and the Splitsider article on Robin Williams, Robert Downey, Jr. was Richard Attenborough's only choice for the lead and that the film's financiers and studio executives wanted Williams or Billy Crystal for the role instead. This information is also mentioned in the Splitsider article on Jim Carrey, which also states that Carrey was considered for the role of Chaplin as well. Peter Sellers was also attached to the role according to both the Splitsider article on Sellers and Roger Lewis's 1997 book about Seller's life titled The Life and Death of Peter Sellers. I have not come across any sources that entail Tom Cruise being considered for this role.Hitcher vs. Candyman (talk) 18:40, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

I'm looking at the book The life and death of Peter Sellers right now, via archive.org. All it says is "He was to have starred in a biopic of Chaplin...", not actually saying which one, when, etc. As anyone could have made a biopic of this public figure, there's no reason to believe that this reference is to the movie that was finally made. -- Zanimum (talk) 05:34, 27 June 2021 (UTC)
