It has been brought to my attention by my botany professor that the difference between Celtis laevigata and Celtis occidentals is the number of teeth on each side of the leaf, not by the shape and texture. C. laevigata has less than 9 teeth, where C. occidentalis has 9-11 teeth. There are no true sources crediting this yet, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
