Translation from the German article

I plan to continue with the translation from the German article that was broken off quite a while ago. If by any chance anyone is currently working on it, please let me know. If not, I have dibs on it. GHStPaulMN (talk) 20:05, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

I abridged the very long German Wikipedia article by about 1/3, primarily by leaving out what I judged to be relatively minor details – references to individuals who don't have an English Wikipedia article about them, attempts of Severing's to do something that failed or had no significant impact, examples of actions that were more or less redundant with other examples or were uncited, etc. I know that doing this risks introducing my own biases, but I'm reasonably confident I didn't leave out anything crucial (the article is still very long) and that what remains is a coherent narrative.

The introductory paragraphs are my own and intended to be enough to give a decent feel for Severing's life and work to people who don't want to wade through the whole article .
