Tchaikovsky's diaries
editIf you have Tchaikovsky's diaries, can you read what it says about his trip to Italy, and also about the composition of the Capriccio? Willi Gers07 (talk) 20:27, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Capriccio Italien → Capriccio italien – French capitalisation conventions require demonyms to be in lower case. It's a little unclear in this case, since the head word "Capriccio" is Italian. But "Italien" is definitely French, so French rules should apply to it. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 21:49, 22 May 2011 (UTC)

- Oppose. Agree French rules are irrelevant. The linked ref and both external links in the article use capitalized "Italien" (one also uses "Italian Capriccio"). Station1 (talk) 23:58, 23 May 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose. A case-sensitive Google Search reveals common usage is overwhelmingly with a capital by a ratio of 50 to 1. Even in GoogleBooks it's about 4 to 1 capital; on GoogleNews it's 90% capital; on album covers that do not use solid caps it's mostly capital; even on Google Scholar it's about 3 to 1 capital. I get where you're coming from but I don't agree here. Softlavender (talk) 08:05, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
