Federal section edit

The federal section reference to 1937 is not accurate. Max Stephan was sentenced to death in the Detroit federal court in 1942, the president commuted it to life in 1943, hours before the scheduled hanging.

The first paragraph needs to be revised. If you define abolition as total de jure elimination of the death penalty from the criminal statutes, Michigan did not abolish the death penalty until 1963, when the death penalty was eliminated for treason. See this statuory cite. It would be accurate to state that it was abolished for ordinary crimes at the time stated. Ellsworth (talk) 01:53, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Ok, looks right now. I dropped this ref. for which the link was busted: Information on States Without the Death Penalty Ellsworth (talk) 01:59, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Also the Michigan constitution of 1963 prohibits the death penalty (article IV, sec. 46). That needs to be in there. Wonder how many other states have that as part of the constitution? Wish I had time to check... Ellsworth (talk) 02:04, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

List of those executed. edit

The reference works cited stop with the executions of 1830. This includes a search of the two reference books that give the history of Detroit.

I have a family connection to Ben Woodworth, and our family history does not mention an execution in 1836. If there is no information on this, it should be removed.
