"Light station?" edit
I've reverted the addition of {{Infobox light station}} because AFAIK the term 'light station' is an American term only used in connexion with US installations and is not recognised elsewhere. Bermicourt (talk) 08:46, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Bermicourt: you reverted two of my changes - I assume you did not mean to revert the other one so I have redone that one. {{Infobox lighthouse}} is designed for a single lighthouse, whereas this article is about two lighthouses. The main issue on this article is the header "Tower" which is misplaced; the other infobox is designed for use where there are might than one lighthouse and does not have this problem. I would be fine with renaming that template if you can suggest a better name. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:38, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, you're right. I'm only querying the infobox. I wonder whether the easiest solution in the short term is to revert to calling this Cape Arkona Lighthouse since there is only one active lighthouse on the site. Then {{Infobox lighthouse}} would work anyway. There is a wider question about whether we need templates that distinguish between single lighthouses and other configurations or whether {{Infobox lighthouse}} can be used to fulfil both roles, but I'll leave those interested in lighthouses to decide. Certainly if we're going to have technical terminology we should strive to use international terms for clarity or restrict regional terms to their regions. - So just to clarify, it is only the name of the infobox that you are objecting to, not anything about its functionality? And that name is not displayed on the article anywhere? Seems to me this should be easy to resolve if you can suggest an alternative name that you are happy with. If you want an infobox just for the active lighthouse, then go ahead and revert to Infobox Lighthouse. Or if you want two separate infoboxes that would work too. It's {{Infobox lighthouse | qid = Q30147105}} for the original tower and {{Infobox lighthouse | qid = Q830182}} for the active lighthouse. - Thank you for being patient and I appreciate that you're simply trying to improve articles. I'm only concerned that the term "light station" is a specific regional concept, not recognised elsewhere in the English speaking world. I don't know whether there is a universal term. In the field of railways, which is one of my specialisms, the UIC defines common international terminology; I tried to find the equivalent on the IALA site but drew a blank. Infobox Light Station is of course fine for the US and Canada where the term is understood, but my suggestion is that elsewhere we continue to use Infobox Lighthouse until someone tracks down the equivalent international term.
