Is the "Campeones Cup" an official or friendly international competition? edit

Since the 2019 edition is coming in August, I have taken it upon myself to investigate whether this competition counts as an official tournament or not. And I've taken an interesting surprise. While the sources in English list it as an official international tournament in the track record of Tigres (current champions), the sources in Spanish do not consider it more than as a friendly tournament. On the other hand, Concacaf has not made any pronouncement about this cup in any of its official sites since its creation, which does not help to clarify the matter. The only places where this tournament has been officially spoken are those of the Liga MX and the MLS (which seems logical since these two leagues are the ones organizing the tournament), but given that wake of ambiguity and confusion that reminds me a lot of what happened to the SuperLiga (tournament that is still debated today if it is official or friendly), I would like to know if there is any formal document stating that this cup counts as official competition endorsed by Concacaf. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ZeiramXR (talkcontribs) 21:05, 17 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@ZeiramXR: It's a friendly that is organized by the two leagues, with the endorsement of CONCACAF. It is not a major honor and sits low on the totem of CONCACAF club competitions, likely falling further down once the new invitational MLS–Liga MX competition begins next year. There should be a mention that Campeones Cup is a friendly tournament somewhere edit

Campeones Cup isn't sanctioned by CONCACAF, which makes it a friendly/unofficial competition. I think there should be a mention of that somewhere. It's mentioned all over the place in the Spanish version of the article. Thiaguitocpl (talk) 19:41, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

All claims need to be backed up by a reliable source. SounderBruce 20:26, 6 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well for one, Leagues Cup mentions on their site as well as every press release that it's a tournament/competition sanctioned by CONCACAF. Campeones Cup doesn't. https://www.leaguescup.com/campeonescup/about/
Also a bunch of media from Mexico saying it's not sanctioned by CONCACAF:

But nothing to back the claim that this is a "friendly", just not CONCACAF sanctioned. No need to fuss over this, just add that the Campeones Cup is not a CONCACAF competition and leave it at that until a good source is found. SounderBruce 00:27, 7 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
