editJoszi et. al have discussed (and it seems more likely) that FHR-1 isn't necessary for preventing aHUS so much as it is for developing FH tolerance. 50% of Nigerians lacks FHR3 and FHR1. Also, 21/24 IgG from that paper that are anti-FH will bind FHR1.
