Why be so discreet. This article needs a section on the match fixing allegations against Bryce Lawrence — Preceding unsigned comment added by 57.82.10.65 (talk) 08:54, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Key poor decisions in the Rugby World Cup 2011 (Australia vs Ireland and South Africa vs Australia), causing Ireland to defeat Australia and Australia to defeat South Africa. To his credit though, Lawrence admitted making multiple mistakes against the Wallabies in the shock 15-6 loss to Ireland, especially scrummaging, which accounted for six penalties at critical stages. In the South Africa vs Australia match, the South Africans thought that the tackler would have to release the ball carrier, and that they thought that the offside line would be respected, with the men having to stay on their feet. His poor decision-making in both these matches, reportedly excluded him from consideration for the world cup semi-final matches.

Not done Thanks for putting this a lot more neutrally and with more thought than the previous edit requests/comments. Also it is good that references are provided. However I am still going to deny this request. The reason is that it gives undue weight to this game. It is true that he did not have a good game vs South Africa (the Aussie one wasn't too bad), but to go into detail on his supposed bad games and not on any good ones does not follow our policy on neutrality. Nigel Owens was criticised after the South Africa vs Samoa game as have all international referees at some point and we don't include the details unless there is a very good reason to. Criticisms of Wayne Barnes, Stuart Dickinson and Steve Walsh (rugby referee) have small mentions due to the International Rugby Board becoming involved and commenting on or strongly defending their performance. If that happens in this case, which it very well might, I would most likely support a small addition. AIRcorn (talk) 20:55, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Petition to remove Lawrence edit

Following the game between South Africa and Australia on 9 October 2011 a petition was launched on facebook to ensure that Lawrence was not permitted to referee another rugby game. Within 24 hours of the petition being launched it had received 35,000 supporting members and continues to grow quickly. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Petition-To-Stop-Bryce-Lawrence-Ever-Reffing-A-Rugby-Game-Again/286992594653732 — Preceding --marknelza (talk) 12:36, 11 October 2011 (UTC) comment added by Marknelza (talkcontribs) 21:12, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Of course, the petition was ridiculous and was laughed at by the rest of the world. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.88.203.110 (talk) 23:50, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Bryce Lawrence apparently has a rare eye disorder, causing him to lose focus when faced with even the slightest amount of mental pressure. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 57.82.10.65 (talk) 12:25, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wow really, a facebook petition, that's going to make the IRB change their minds. Still not notable face it refs make mistakes and the saffers lost, get over it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.200.21.144 (talk) 21:17, 10 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Bryce Lawrence reffed the 2011 Quater final Sa vs Australia. It was regarded as "the worst refreeeing display"(quoted from News 24) done by a reff at the 2011 World Cup

Do you have a source for this? How should it be worded? and Where should it go? --Jnorton7558 (talk) 22:06, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
He had a bad game and now supporters of the team that lost want the article to say he is a bad referee. So far it is just sports writers and fans venting their frustrations and at this stage does not belong in this article. If action is taken against him by the IRB or he resigns over it then it should be briefly mentioned. WP:Recentism, WP:BLP and WP:UNDUE all apply here.
