Note from the creator of this page edit

This article is about one of the pioneers of the surfboard shaping industry. While my name is the same, this company and this person are of no relation to me and I have never met them and am not working for them.

It is my thought that all of these early founders of the surfboard industry, need short bio pages and that this one is only a start. Dick Brewer already has an entry.

For example Hobart "Hobie" Alter the founder of Hobie, and the Hobie Cat does not have an entry.

It is my contention that this is a neglected Sports Industry and that there are many "unknown" pioneers that should be captured in Wikipedia, to make it a more complete encyclopedia.

You may well be right — presuming this is indeed a pioneer, it should be possible to find a reliable, independent source that talks about him.
The problem is simply that, to have an entry on Wikipedia, someone needs to be notable, and the article needs to state why they are. Add a source for his notability, and you're all set! — Coren (talk) 03:03, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think you misunderstood the concept of claims to notability! You want to add references to support the claims, not just state the claim itself between <ref> tags.  :-) — Coren (talk) 03:20, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

There you go; I've fixed the <ref> tags a bit so they all refer to each other instead of repeat themselves, but that's a good start for this article!

Happy editing! — Coren (talk) 03:23, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Totally Updated Article edit

OK, its a more complete and referenced article. With what I could find for now. Perhaps other wikipedians can find/add more and perhaps its got enough to stay now... --- BMcCJ 04:02, 8 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Obituary edit

This article was tagged because it sounds like an obituary. Only one sentence was added after his death and the tenses changed. What specifically makes it sound like an obituary? Bahooka (talk) 05:37, 17 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Recognition section edit

While these are good quotes with refs, the reader has no idea who made the remarks. Are these folks notable? Are they well known in the sport itself? Anyone can say nice things about another human, well deserved or not. These come off as being without ‘weight’ without the source of the comment (meaning who uttered the words, not where the quotes came from). Got here after reading ‘The Pump House Gang’ by Tom Wolfe so I could learn more the folks from his writing. Thanks to all who have contributed to this article.
