I am unable to corroborate the popular story about the Duke's mother having the monument relocated because she wanted "not to see or be reminded of my infernal son" - the Duke's mother, Lady Rachael Russell, died in 1777, 55 years before the monument was built. If anyone can source this story more accurately please reinstate it. Cnbrb (talk) 15:04, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Since you can see the house from the monument, it is obvious you can see the monument from the house. Although sight lines may have changed over time, it seems a doubtful story to me. 16:10, 13 January 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C6:1482:A100:F024:A99F:B261:19AF (talk)
