"Tentative" results

edit

I removed a part of the edit of a user who described Kočović's work as "tentative at best". I feel I should explain my action. Kočović was a serious scientist using scientific methods. He did his work in the best possible way, considering the available data, and it has not been surpassed by anybody, as far as I know. To call it tentative would be like calling the theory of evolution tentative because it has not been proven. Like Darwin's theory, Kočović's calculations are the next best thing after the unknown truth, so disparaging them is just stupid. --Zmaj 06:28, 8 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

That might be true, but it was Kocovic himself who has not asserted the results in strong terms. He stressed the arbitrarines of the result. There was simply not enough data to give the results reliably, and thus the results are tentative. No amount of profesionalism can make up for the lack of data - the best a profesional can do is to asses the degree of reliability. And Kocovic did, saying it is not a stable result. That can be compared to Zerjavic, who showed to be a manipulative nationalist. There is a limit to what can be done with demographic calculations - Kocovic was honest about this fact. Also, his assesment of Zerjavic is important; this is a fact about Kocovic biography - do not remove it. JosipPvic 00:07, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't get it!
There is a limit to what can be done with demographic calculations???
Of course there are limits to what can be done! But when some greater-serbian propagandist pulls number of 1 million victims, then it's a certain fact and noone ever mentions any limits? Come on.... This is pitty. --Ante Perkovic 07:41, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I have removed this tag. The article is a correct one & written in a balanced manner. There is absolutely no reason for this tag to remain. In fact, it should not have appeared at all. Mir Harven 08:45, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Removed two sentences

edit

I removed two sentences:

  • The calculations so depended on the population growth rate, which was assumed and for which no reliable data existed, and Kocovic said that the results should be interpreted carefully, as a rough estimate given that the available data were limited. - This sentence is just repeating the content of the two sentences before it. A point does not become more important by being repeated over and over again.
  • Because of this, Zerjavic was frequently described as a manipulator, who doctored numbers based on unreliable data to suit his nationalistic agenda. - This is an accusation against a person. If no relevant references are provided, it is assumed this is the POV of the user who posted it, so it must be removed. In fact, since the article on that person exists, the controversy about him should be moved there. This is an article about Kočović, not Žerjavić. I suspect this could be a case of disrupting Wikipedia to prove a point.
