release date?

I've always heard that the single was released in 1976. I checked a few sources that confirm this. I'll wait a week, if I don't see any confirmation of the Nov. 75 release date I will make a correction. Lenbrazil

Expand/improve

I have tried to expand/improve this article a little, but I am unfortunately no Ramones expert. It do think that Dee Dee Ramone wrote most of the lyrics, as he lived in Germany for 14 years and had a fascination with the country. The music of this song is very simple, so it's also likely that DD wrote the music. Conclusion: Dee Dee wrote Blitzkrieg Bop. I haven't found a clear confirmation however that he was also the one who first came up with the line "He, ho, let's go!". Something that also needs some improvement is the meaning part. And as you can see this article needs a little more information anyway. So... any big Ramone fans here? - Face 18:36, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

It was written by Tommy, it's common knowledge as far as I know. It is stated in the booklet of "Hey Ho Let's Go: Anthology", Dee Dee only changed the original line "they're shouting in the back now" with "shoot 'em in the back now". The verse uses three chords:

The chorus uses four chords; it has a fourth B chord at the end:

I think it's fair to say that the song is "based on a simple three-chord pattern" (the current wording). That's not quite the same as saying that it only has three chords in total, and the alternatives - "based on a simple three-chord pattern, although the song actually has a fourth chord in the chorus" or "the song has four chords, with the verses using a simple three-chord pattern and the choruses using a more complex pattern that introduces a fourth chord" - sounds too pedantic, too much like Alan Pollack, the Beatles guy. ____ Like the most of Ramones song, the chords of Blitzkrieg Bop are BARRE-CHORDS, NOT power-chords; you can see and hear it from any live show of the band. If you listen carefully also the studio version, you can clearly hear the major thirds (A-E-A-C#) also in the main riff, not only in the chorus. Let's Knife

Shonen Knife's "Buttercup (I'm a Super Girl)" sounds mighty similar to "Blitzkrieg Bop", but there must be lots of songs that sound like "Blitzkrieg Bop". It would interesting if Mr Chords above could shed some light on this. There's quite a thorough discussion of the Ramones' chords as part of Mark Prindle's review comments here (search for "bullshit"). I'm fairly sure they are saying "oy, oh" and not "hey, ho" in the opening. It doesn't sound anything like "hey", even with an accent. I would just edit it without saying anything, but I figured I'd make sure I discuss it first.

English translation of "Blitzkrieg"

I think the translation of "Blitzkrieg" as "lightning war" is misleading. The term refers to a surprisingly fast attack compared to a long-lasting conflict with high material attrition. Hence, "flash war" might be a better translation (In German, both flash and lightning are translated to "Blitz").
