my name is Daniel, i am 16ish years old and live in pittsburgh. i just like wikipedia a lot, so i decided to start a profile. i am largely interested in music, and am apparently "polemic" and "inflammatory". i started editing wikipedia around last fall when i was struck by the idea of a democratic encyclopedia. unfortunately, a lot of people seem to almost want to lessen the quality of such a great endevour by deleting things as they see fit and throwing around words like "encyclopedic", apparently forgetting that this is not the 1911 brittanica but the twenty first century and people like Brian Peppers are worth a mention. what bothers me just as much is that the wiki- format begs vandals to have a go, and rather than being blocked instantly, these people often get a nice big "thank you for experimenting with wikipedia" note on their talk page and don't end up banned until many weeks later. i always do my best to make wikipedia a better place to counter the deletionists and vandals.
you can contact me at joeyramoney@aol.com or joeyramoney@yahoo.com, but there is an admittedly slim chance of me replying or even reading it.
Any image should be permitted for use in an article, as long as permission is given by the webmaster, or it adheres to Wikipedias' standing usage policies.
To be a wikipedia editor is a privilege, not a right
Any non-editor who has commited acts of vandalism multiple times after fair warnings were given should be blocked.
Users who have a screen name should be given greater editing privelages than those who don't, and should not face penalties as strict as those that apply to non-editors.
All major additions should be signed and discussed before being applied.
Articles that are prone to vandalism and/or should not be edited should be at least semi-blocked.
Only a user should be allowed to edit his or her page, and if highly offensive or inappropriate (excluding official userboxes) content is posted, the user should be given a warning to take it down, and if they fail to comply, that user will be banned.
Wikipedia should be all-inclusive
All factual and appropriate content has a place on Wikipedia, and no appropriate article should be deleted.
Content that bogs an article down should not be removed, but perhaps moved to a different page or otherwise cleaned up.
The motto of the AIW is conservata veritate, which translates to "with the preserved truth".
This motto reflects the inclusionist desire to change Wikipedia only when no knowledge would be lost as a result.
