reporting vandalism and a couple of other issues edit

so in the section on history there is this very neutral line :

Muslims have been increasing their population in this district because of polygamy and the tendency to have multiple children among the richer and poorer sections of the society.

so ahem do something about this? this sort of content is alright on one of the "satirical" wikis but wikipedia isn't for rumor mongering right?

also there is a hot water spring that has some religious and historical significance as a sufi saint who is popularly known as "malik baba"is buried there, at the very least it is a popular tourist attraction(even europeans end up there so you know). so that is something that could be talked about. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.3.77.205 (talk) 04:40, 24 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Category edit

Can you point to any particular wiki guideline which states that a prominent city of the state can't feature in the "Town and cities of state" category, I am talking in the context of edits done by you(user:Thaejas) on the page Biharsharif. Narendra PatelK (talk) 02:40, 2 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • User:Narendra PatelK, Hi, All the citiies and town pages are inside the subcategories of the districts. Whenever there is no relevant category, then the pages can and should be put into the most appropriate parent category. But as and when an appropriate subcategory exist, it is good to move the pages to the appropriate subcategory. This will ensure the pages are categorized precisely and neatly. You can refer to the similar categories of other states' cities and towns for reference. You might find there are many pages still yet to be moved to the most appropriate subcategory. More info at WP:CATSPECIFIC. Thanks for understanding. Thaejas (talk) 13:04, 2 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • User:Thaejas - Thanks for the reply, I was unaware of this. Narendra PatelK (talk) 13:23, 2 January 2022 (UTC).Reply

Proposed merge of Bihar Sharif Municipal Corporation into Bihar Sharif edit

I see that there are a number of these "municipal corporation" articles for other Indian cities and I'm not clear on why a distinct, separate article is warranted. For similar concepts I've seen (admittedly primarily US-based) any sort of governing body is not really considered distinct or separate from the city itself and thus the information is typically found in the same article. I am curious to know if there is precedent elsewhere on Wikipedia for this type of distinction. Paradoxsociety 00:01, 28 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi.Municipal Corporation for each city are the civic bodies governing the city. They are headed by Mayor and governed by Commissioners. They themselves have an elaborate history on politics and governance. Hence I feel it is impossible to club a city article and its related Municipal Corporation and Mayor articles. I thank you for your valuable suggestion and feedback. Let me know for any clarification. Gardenkur (talk) 02:20, 28 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @Gardenkur. I'm seeing a lot of overlapping content across some of the municipal corporation articles, particularly in the "Functions" and "Revenue sources" sections of these pages - for example Vijayawada Municipal Corporation appears to contain nearly-identical information in these sections compared to Bihar Sharif Municipal Corporation. Same thing with Jagdalpur Municipal Corporation and other pages selected from List of municipal corporations in India. It is still very unclear to me whether separate pages are warranted for all of these. Paradoxsociety 08:36, 1 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hi Paradoxsociety. Thanks for your reply. As you observed for different cities the functions of Municipal Corporation are same and similar are their revenue earning sources. In a period of time you will see the Municipal Corporation articles will expand with their history and the names of Mayor and their tenure. These are Governmental organisations for respective towns. Hope Iam clear. Thanks. Gardenkur (talk) 12:17, 1 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

March 2024 edit

I think the section Pre-Islamic period and Odantapuri University can be changed to Middle kingdoms or Classical and medieval period, depending on the empire that controlled the region successively - the Guptas and the Palas and per the other section and flow. Emphasis on one location 'Odantapuri University' isn't neutral in my opinion. And those kingdoms were not exactly 'Ancient' not distinct 'Indian Civilisation' per scholars. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:23, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

I wanted to address a concern regarding the historical periodization and city identity in our recent documentation.Firstly, I'd like to emphasize that referring to the Gupta Empire as the "Pre-Islamic period" overlooks its significant contributions and cultural achievements. The Gupta Empire holds its own importance in Indian history, and categorizing it solely in relation to the Islamic period fails to acknowledge its distinct significance.
Furthermore, it's important to note that Bihar Sharif, as a city, has a diverse and multifaceted history that extends beyond any singular religious or cultural identity. Therefore, labeling it as an "Pre Islamic period" may not accurately represent its historical and cultural heritage.
To provide a more comprehensive overview, I suggest incorporating different sections in our documentation to highlight various historical periods, such as the Ancient Period, Gupta Empire Period, Colonial Period, and Modern Period. This approach will allow us to delve deeper into the city's rich history and acknowledge its diverse cultural influences over time.
I believe these adjustments will help present a more nuanced and accurate portrayal of Bihar Sharif's history and identity. Please feel free to share your thoughts or suggestions on this matter. Sak7340 (talk) 13:06, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
1. Ancient Period:
- Bihar Sharif has ancient roots, dating back to the time of the Magadha kingdom, one of the most powerful kingdoms in ancient India.
- It is believed that Bihar Sharif was a significant settlement even before the time of the Buddha.
- The area gained prominence as the capital of the Magadha kingdom during the Pala Empire.
2. Gupta Empire Period:
- During the Gupta Empire (4th to 6th centuries CE), Bihar Sharif was known as an important center of learning and culture.
- The region was home to the renowned Odantapuri University, established by the Pala king Gopala I in the 7th century CE.
- Odantapuri University was one of the five Mahaviharas (great monasteries) of ancient India and played a crucial role in Buddhist education and scholarship.
3. Medieval Period:
- Bihar Sharif continued to thrive as a center of learning and culture during the medieval period.
- It remained an important hub for Buddhist studies and attracted scholars and students from far and wide.
4. Mughal Period:
- Bihar Sharif witnessed significant developments during the Mughal period, with the establishment of Mughal rule in the region.
- The Mughals contributed to the architectural and cultural landscape of Bihar Sharif, leaving behind notable monuments and structures.
5. Colonial Period:
- Bihar Sharif came under British colonial rule during the 18th and 19th centuries.
- The British period brought about changes in administration, infrastructure, and governance in Bihar Sharif and the surrounding region.
6. Modern Period:
- In the post-independence era, Bihar Sharif has continued to be an important center of culture, education, and commerce in Bihar.
- The city has witnessed urbanization and development, while still retaining its historical and cultural significance.
I believe this order is better and the topic of khilji can be added in between. Sak7340 (talk) 13:10, 15 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Sak7340: We can't have that many subsections for two-three lines per section. At the moment, as far as the current content is concerned, we can rename the header as either Middle kingdoms or Classical and medieval period, I like the latter. If we have more WP:HISTRS compliant sources, we can add more content in the future and arrange those into subsections you proposed above - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:17, 16 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
