Berne ConventionBerne Convention (disambiguation) — and redirect Berne Convention to Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. TJRC (talk) 00:31, 9 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Rationale

Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works is clearly the primary topic of the four articles listed on this DAB page, as described below.

  • Incoming Links. There are by far more incoming links to Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works (the copyright treaty) than to any of the others. It has more than double (almost three times) the number of links as the #2 article.
Incoming links (article space only, 2011-04-08, excluding link from this DAB page)
article # of links percent
Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works 169 71.6%
Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats 60 25.4%
Berne Convention (1906) 4 1.7%
Treaty of Bern 3 1.3%
Total 236 100%
  • Article traffic. There is overwhelmingly more traffic to Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works than to any of the others, or indeed, to all of the others combined; last month, more than 90% of the traffic was to that article.
Article traffic (March 2011, the most recent complete month)
article # of views percent
Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works 15512 92.2%
Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats 1019 6.0%
Berne Convention (1906) 276 1.6%
Treaty of Bern 0 0.0%
Total 16807 100%

Interestingly, even this dab page, Berne Convention, gets more traffic than all the other articles listed on it other than the #1 entry. It got 2001 views, nearly double the #2 article.

  • Google hits. I know this is not the decision maker, but it's useful info. I just ran a search on "Berne Convention". On the first page, the top 9 hits are for the copyright treaty; the 10th is for the wildlife treaty. Interestingly, same on the second page: hits 11-19 are for the copyright treaty, hit #20 for the wildlife treaty. But those are the only 2 hits of the first 100. 98% of the top 100 google hits (for me, anyway) are to the copyright treaty.

In sum, it seems pretty clear to me that:

  1. Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works is the primary topic;
  2. Berne Convention should be moved to Berne Convention (disambiguation) over redirect;
  3. Berne Convention should redirect to Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works; and
  4. Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works should get a {tl|redirect}} hatnote pointing to Berne Convention (disambiguation).

Support, evidence provided plus own experience indicates this is a clear primary topic. (I would even shorten the title of the primary topic article to simply "Berne Convention" - the common name.)--Kotniski (talk) 10:25, 17 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
