Needs sources

This entire section needs to be sourced before being restored back to the article. -Classicfilms (talk) 16:27, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

It would be helpful if you would specify which items in the History section you feel need further references. Much of what is there comes from the books cited in the reference section. Other info has footnotes or links. I see a few points that might need sourcing, but unless you specify, the tag seems excessive. Tmangray (talk) 16:49, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Athletics and Extracurriculars

Berkeley High School has gained national and state-wide prominence in a few sports and extracurriculars.

  • The wrestling team developed five women wrestlers who have earned All-American status since 2000, including: Christie Ravera (3x), Toshia Cristal, Regina Alexander, Jere' Summers (3x), and Lily Dorman-Colby (2x).
  • The girl's basketball team advanced to the California State Division I Finals eight times (1990, 1991, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2006, 2007,2008), and won the State Championship in 1991 and 1997. [Note: in 1998, the title was vacated due to a rules violation when an ineligible player participated on the winning team.]
  • The crew team was the first to form at a public high school west of the Mississippi River. In 2006, the Men's Lightweight 4 won the US Rowing Nationals. In the same year, the Women's Varsity 8 placed second at the Scholastic Nationals.
  • The chess team won the CalChess State Championship in 1996, 1997, and 2002
  • The track team won the California State Championship in 1957. Both the boy's and girl's teams won the State Championship during the 1980s.
  • The girl's volleyball team won the ACCAL league title from 2000-2007.
  • The women's field hockey team won the BVAC Championship from 2002-2005.
  • The school newspaper, the Berkeley High Jacket, went to print in 1958 and was among the first daily high school newspapers in the U.S.
  • The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo have won state-wide competitions at the Monterey Jazz Festival, Redwood Empire Jazz Festival, Cosumnes River College Winter Jazz Festival, and Folsom Jazz Festivals. Beginning in 1997, the Jazz Ensemble performed by invitation at the Montreux and North Sea Jazz Festivals, and has since toured Europe and Japan multiple times.
  • The mountain bike team was among the first supported by a high school. The head coach, Matt Fritzinger, is also responsible for the NorCal High School Mountain Bike Racing League.
  • The ultimate team, Berkeley High Coup, has recently won state championships in 2016, 2014, and 2013[1][2], and was recognized by a national power ranking in 2014 as the 8th best team in the nation.[3] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.23.241.229 (talk) 00:45, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
