Hey this is Brian Abbott, Class of 2006. I just wanted to leave something on the talk page. I will probably be in the news in the future and I felt like I should come on here to explain my history in the talk page. I have Schizophrenia and there was a medical interaction between alcohol and my Schizophrenic brain. I'm going to speak to the cadets when I have achieved a level of success for it to be noteworthy. Any cadet who gets Schizophrenia will have my phone number and email address. :) Sorry about my history, I was a mess. I'm sober now and you can visit my website to see what I am up to - https://brianabbott.com. Burnedfaceless (talk) 16:11, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Whoever is constantly removing things from the webpage needs to explain themselves. First of all, if you did not graduate from BC you have no business here anyway. Second, this is a publicly edited site, not anything official and therefore doesn't need to be censored for what you deem "unnecessary." Third, I started this Benedictine web site and myself as well as a few others spent a lot of time putting it together and don't appreciate your unsolicited editorial actions.
Explanations like "unnecessary" are not good enough. Identify yourself and from now on, post ideas in the discussion area before any changes are made.
- Hiya. Wikipedia has policies on what kind of information is permitted in articles. We are building an encyclopedia, not a web journal. For a taste of what wikipedia is and is not, please read WP:NOT, WP:OWN, and WP:NOR. Articles here on the wikipedia aren't owned by any individual or group of individuals. It is freely edited by anyone. I reviewed the removal of information, and it was justified. So please take some time to read the official policies. Thanks. --BWD (talk) 20:40, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
Okay, going back through the history of edits on the article I now see some of the things you felt necessary to remove. The page was never originally intended to contain erroneous facts about people like Harry Deal or include stupid inside jokes. Also in the Cafetorium Etiquette article, someone changed the shouts of "Nerd!" which is very accurate from personal experience, to "FAG!" which is not. I don't appreciate the changes of some 16 year old from my original design for the school. I apologize for not going back and examining the history first.
As far as authenticity, the history came from an alumni directory issued in the early 1990's. As soon as I can get it I will put appropriate credit as due. The rest is mostly personal experience.
Personal opinion I suppose, but I think the Bill Curley part should either be changed or deleted. As mentioned before inside jokes don't have much place on an encylopedia, and I trust you have far more knowledge on this article than I do. --70.179.119.138 22:44, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
If vandalism continues to occur, I'll simply petition Wikipedia to place a block on editing for this page. This website is meant to make Benedictine look good, not show the world what morons its associates can be. Besides, changing a publicly edited website is no accomplishment. Do not ruin the privilege of this website like so many privileges BC students have ruined in the past. 69.59.110.244 04:19, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Around October 2006 I had posted that the words of the fight song changed between my father's graduation year (1954) and my entrance to the school (1986 as part of class of 1990). I do not appreciate it having been summarily removed without explanation. Many of our older alumni get quite insistent that the line should be "We're going to beat them well and how we say we say" and finding out when the lyric changed is important to me. --66.245.112.104 16:37, 12 May 2007 (UTC) aka Jonathan Clark BC c/o 1990.
I am also able to to confirm that the shouts of "Nerd!" in the Cafetorium when a chair falls over is accurate. --66.245.112.104 16:41, 12 May 2007 (UTC) aka Jonathan Clark BC c/o 1990
Assessment
editI am assessing this article based on a request made at the Schools project. This article, as it stands, is a little messy. First, the JROTC section is entirely too long. I am going to fix that in a moment. Generally, staff members are never noted in an article with the exceptions of: the current principal and superintendent in the infobox (or equivalent), a list of principals/headmasters/equivalent, or if a staff member meets the general notability requirements. For more information on this, see WP:WPSCH/AG#WNTI. Also, see WP:WEIGHT regarding how the Wikipedia community feels that sections of all articles relative lengths should be in proportion to the relevance to the topic. While it certainly appears as a mandatory part of the school that the section on JROTC here should be longer than for most schools, I think it still violates WP:WEIGHT.
The lyrics for the fight song have to go (see the previous link).
There are two references for this article. The lack of referencing means that this article cannot be ranked above a "Start" level of progress. Given that the school is over 100 years old, I would hope the history section could be substantially expanded.
At this time, there is a lack of referencing to confirm that this school should be raised above "Low" importance in the schools project. With expansion and referencing, it may be eligible for that higher ranking. With the lack of referencing, it cannot go beyond Start, since the primary requirement for "C" level articles is substantial reliable referencing.
I strongly urge editors interested in improving this article to review other good articles (WP:WikiProject Schools#Featured articles), and the guidelines for writing school articles. Best of luck to all editors! LonelyBeacon (talk) 05:07, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
- I have made some edits to this article. I am not sure, but the JROTC section is still likely too long. I also went through and removed some of the more flowery descriptions per WP:NPOV, WP:PEACOCK, and WP:PRESTIGE. I may not have gotten it all. LonelyBeacon (talk) 05:57, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
JROTC organization
editUpon study and reflection, I have removed most of the organization section. Based on reading the section, there was nothing unique about the organization of this JROTC compared to other similar schools. The link to Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps already exists prominently in the ROTC section, so readers wanting more information about the organization of JROTC groups can go there.
I did retain the parts that seemed encyclopedic and unique to the school, and moved them into the already extant section on JROTC. Those need to be properly referenced in order to stay.
removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV
editI've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now.
