Yes, absolutely. But it's far from the mark to describe such a profound and intricate poem as "basically a description of Yeats Country." Moved article - too quickly?

I think I may have jumped into this too quickly! I was going through the [GE] (Gasaitéar Na hÉireann - Gazetteer of Ireland) and came across the official English-language form of the mountain, and moved this page from Ben Bulben to Benbulbin as a result. Perhaps I should have discussed it first. Is this move ok, or does anyone think should I revert? --The.Q^(t)(c) 16:52, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Actually we use "common name" not official name - anyway I call it neither of the above names that you suggest - I call it Benbulben!--Vintagekits 20:40, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Just a further bit of background as to why I moved this page; I was going through the Gazetteer of Ireland for Irish names of places in County Sligo, and came across Benbulbin as the correct spelling for this mountain. Without thinking about it too much, I moved Ben Bulben to Benbulbin, given that I've seen this spelled three ways, in different places (Benbulbin, Ben Bulben and Benbulben), and as they are all pronounced the same way, I felt it was better to give the article the corrected spelling. Q, is there any signpost about which have the mountains name on it? Also wiki uses common name not official name - I would say the common name is Benbulben (all one word) but could be convinced otherwise.--Vintagekits 18:50, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Regardless of the spelling, there already page for "Benbulbin". It redirects to "Ben Bulben". Besides which, this is not the only case of such a thing. For example, the article Ukraine should theoretically redirect to The Ukraine, which is the proper name. But, it doesn't. -Billy-talk 20:25, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

(un-indent) Strange as this may sound coming from me (the user who made the original move from Ben Bulben to Benbulbin), I actually agree with VK here. As I stated above, I probably moved this too quickly, not being fully aware of the normal practice of having an article called by it's more usual name, rather than any official one. A quick search on-line shows that the mountain is called Benbulben by the official tourist agency, sligotourism.ie here and also by the Government agency, Geological Survey of Ireland here. If I get a chance to get out that direction with my camera in the next few days, I'll see if i cna get some photos of roadsigns, Etc., to see how it's spelt on those. If I get a few proving what VK and I and (I believe) most Sligonians would call the place, would that be sufficient to change it (again!)? --The.Q^(t)(c) 15:41, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Sixteen years later and I'm assuming you never got out there with your camera? I can only echo the sentiments of those who find it jarring to see it spelled 'Benbulbin'. I've lived in Sligo my whole life (36 years, 7 months and counting) and I had never seen it spelled that way until I found this article on Wikipedia. 'Benbulben' isn't just the more common spelling, it's the only one that's ever used. If all you need to change the page title are some photos of nearby road signs, I'd be happy to go and get a few snaps of them myself and send them on to you? Location of ben bulben

Stating that Ben Bulben is in "Yeat's Country" before stating its location in Co. Sligo is not a great introduction. Perhaps should be re-written as "it is in north Co. Sligo, also referred to as Yeat's Counrtry." KMcD (talk) 13:07, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I think this article needs a fair bit of work before being a GA. I'll list some things to work on and revisit. Casliber (talk · contribs) 10:50, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

• See guidelines on lead sections - it needs to summarise salient points. I might have a crack at this myself.

• Etymology section needs a ref or two.

• Geology section - which ice age? Persumably the last. Needs clarifying and reference. Also, any fossils found there?

• Climbing section - dangerous - anyone been injured or died? Does the north climb need rock climbing gear? Are there dedicated walking tracks?

• Flora and fauna - be good to list some of the more unusual unique plants

• Sinn Fein slogan campaign - needs a ref, as does Irish Civil War

• Is it protected area - waht goverrment body looks after it?

All sections come up as a bit 'light' and could do with some embellishing. Ultimately, there is a lot of work to do, but I'm happy to leave this open for a couple of weeks and chip in. Ben Bulben is listed as a protected structure

Ben Bulben is a mountain, not a structure. Buildings are structures. In Ireland, buildings that predate 1700 are protected by the Record of Monuments and Places (RMP). Buildings after 1700 are given protected status in Development plans (county or local).

So say that a mountain is protected is untrue. Ben Bulben and surrounding areas do have protected status in the forms of Special protection area (SPA) for birds under the EU birdsnot a member directive and special areas of conservation (SAC) which covers wildlife covered by the EU habitats directive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bjango297 (talk • contribs) 19:35, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Joe Ring is incorrectly listed among Sligo’s “Noble Six” in the article. Joseph Ring was a Free State army brigadier killed by the IRA in an attack in the Ox Mountains on September 12, 1922. Picture from incorrect location

This picture is described as being of Slieve League in Donegal, not Benbulbin. I'm not familiar with the area myself so can't verify that the info on the picture is correct so haven't removed. Also, does the info box need to have a new section created for it? The pictures are all presently under the Irish Civil War section movingturtle (talk) 14:13, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
