I looked into this article because there was a broken link, and because it was odd that this tragedy gets no mention on Mills Godwin's page. The CBS news coverage and the recollections of Sen. Andrews both suggest a date of August 1968, not July 1966; since all versions agree on an age of 14 I changed the YOB to 1954 from 1952 (the previous correction had changed the YOD to match up to the YOB, apparently incorrectly). Also, since the accident and the CBS story of Becky's death are 3 days apart, I had to remove the line that she was dead when the rescuers arrived, as there is no reference to back this up. While this leaves a number of unverified facts (the weather, who else was there, etc) its an improvement. I thought it worth leaving a comment about all this since it changes many of the facts in the article Bazzargh 00:57, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Notability
editAs sad as Godwin's death was, I have to ask whether it merits a Wikipedia article. As our Lightning strike article notes, there are estimated to be 24,000 fatalities worldwide annually due to lightning (source: [1]) - and we clearly don't document them all.
