Page title

edit

On balance, I think the title of this page ought to be 'Battle of Philippi (Virginia)', since the area formed part of Virginia at the time of the battle. But it seems the title can't be altered via the edit-page. Valetude (talk) 16:21, 5 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

For the record-books

edit

Can't access the NPS Battle Summary for details of the casualties. Presumably the dead Union men were the first to die in action in the Civil War. Are their names known? Valetude (talk) 13:42, 10 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hello,

Not sure if this is proper place to add this, but here it goes. In Oct. 2004, a user known as Gibsonian uploaded the sketch showing "the disposition of some of Morris's troops just northwest of Philippi" to the Battle of Philippi Wikipedia page. The artist is unknown. However, I recently found documentation of the potential artist. I've tried contacting "Gibsonian" but their contact link is broken. Does anyone know how to content them? Does anyone know the provenience of the sketch or where the original is located? Any information is appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by OldArmyRecords (talkcontribs) 18:22, 12 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Battle of Philippi (West Virginia)Battle of Philippi (1861) – per WP:MILNAME, and also because West Virginia didn't even exist when the battle took place. An alternative title could be Battle of Philippi (American Civil War). Sharper {talk} 18:38, 19 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
