King Kalanikupule edit
Is it appropriate to refer to Kalanikupule as a king? Wasn't Kahekili the king of Maui? KarlM 00:57, 25 June 2006 (UTC)
Malana arm edit
"A Malana army...(Kipuʻokinaupuʻu)..." Until somebody can explain what this means, I deleted it. I can't find any meaning that makes sense in the Hawaiian dictionary, and it's not in the hawaiianhistory.org article that the paragraph is mostly copied from. So if it is something that's worth keeping in, there should be some explanation in the article. KarlM 07:59, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
Bows and arrows edit
I removed the bows and arrows comment about this battle. If I'm wrong I would be surprised, as I have never heard of the use of bows in this or any other Hawaiian battles. I also lengthened the time line to fit with contemporary accounts. -Warmog
- It appears to be entirely accurate from what I can tell, and various reliable sources describe archery in the islands. It's a little strange that you would remove bows and arrows from the article but fail to observe the use of modern cannons in the very same war. Viriditas (talk) 19:46, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, looking into this further, from what I can tell, bows and arrows were used extensively throughout Polynesia, but the historical consensus is that they were never used during warfare, which I find strange. But even stranger, the original material reporting the use of bows and arrows was taken from a poor source (a mistake on my part) named Hawaiihistory.org, which was apparently using user-generated content.[1] This edit was made in 2006.[2] However, the current URL does not list "bows and arrows", nor does it list the "malana army" listed above. Perplexed, I went to archive.org to trace the original error, only to find one archived entry for 2007, one year after the edit was made.[3] This tells me that either the site wasn't indexed until a year later, or the original erroneous archive was deleted. This leads me to believe that we should ban the use of HawaiiHistory.org as a reference. Anyway, you were right. Viriditas (talk) 20:14, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
