Ranch Location

"Barker Ranch is located in a rock and boulder filled valley east of the Panamint Range."

Is it on the east side of the range? In Vincent Bugliosi's book Helter Skelter, the ranch is described as being on the west side of the range. It matters geographically: The west side of the range is the Panamint Valley; the east side Death Valley proper. Also, at the time of the Manson Family killings, I don't think the ranch was within the boundaries of DV National Park, although it seems to be today, based on the map at the DVNP Wikipedia entry. The property reverted back to the government in 1971 when the Barkers stopped mining. In 1976 it was incorporated by the government into a conservation area. In 1994 when DV National Park was created, the park absorbed a whole lot of surrounding land including the Barker Ranch site. 12.12.144.130 (talk) 22:46, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Barker Ranch Ownership

in the section, "Manson at Barker Ranch," it states Manson Family member, Catherine (Cathy) Gilles was the granddaughter of Arlene Barker, owner of Barker Ranch. this is incorrect. Cathy Gilles was the granddaughter of the owner of MYERS Ranch, located close to Barker. this is stated in Part III of the book, Helter Skelter, where they also make clear the distinction between how Manson wanted to get control over both ranches. whereas Manson contacted Mrs. Arlene Barker about buying the ranch, and "paying" for staying there with a gold album from the Beach Boys, he planned "to get control of Myers Ranch, which called for murdering Cathy's grandmother..."

in the blog, mansonblog.com , they also show documentation that the ranches were 2 different properties with different owners and different outcomes. whereas the BLM took back control over Barker Ranch, after Mrs. Barker stopped filing for mining rights, Myers Ranch still belongs to the owner family and still exists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 47.149.233.98 (talk) 18:18, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
