This article merged with Bandar Lengeh. There is no such place named Bandar-Lengeh County, the correct name is Bandar Lengeh, which is a port city not a country. "Bandar Lengeh County" generates no more than one google hit. --Mardavich 11:10, 10 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

There's a whole bunch of articles like that on counties of Iran, they were all created recently, see the Category "Counties in Iran". Would you want to merge all of those with their respective capitals? FellFairy 13:51, 10 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

There are many hits for "شهرستان بندر لنگه" (shahristani bandar lengeh) though. [1] - Francis Tyers · 11:58, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I know. But "شهرستان" simply means "city", Bandar Lengeh is not a countyas far as I know. --Mardavich 12:18, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I was under the impression that (شهر) "shahr" was city, and (شهرستان) "shahristan" (lit. 'place of city') was county.
"Branch personnel will be further decentralized from an Ostan basis to a sharistan basis. (An Ostan is composed of from seven to thirteen sharistans.)" [2]
Now I may be wrong, I'm not a native speaker of Persian, but the Iranian guy who helped me create these articles supplied the translations. - Francis Tyers · 14:12, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well as far I know, there are only cities and provinces in Iran. "شهرستان" is a more formal alternative to "شهر", and "شهر" is a simplified variety of "شهرستان". I may be wrong though. --Mardavich 14:35, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, I will make enquiries. - Francis Tyers · 14:42, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I asked my Persian teacher and she said that a sharistan is like a suburb of a city. Which is odd, as User:Jahangard was under the impression that it was a county. - Francis Tyers · 07:51, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

In Iran, "shahrestān" is a subdivision of an "ostān" (province). This is the common use of the word since 1931 (after the corresponding Iranian parliment act about the administrative regions). Bandar-Lengeh is a city which is the capital of "Bandar-Lengeh County" (shahrestān-e Bandar-Lengeh). Jahangard 20:54, 23 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
