Name edit

Is it called "banana" because of its shape or flavor? Badagnani 19:25, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't taste anything like banana in my experience, so I think it is probably because of the shape and colour. Incidentally, the information on this page needs a bit of a tidy. For example, in New Zealand there are three or four species that have "banana passionfruit" as part of the name (depending on what common name is applied to the true Passiflora mixta). I'm not sure how much should be on this page and how much on the pages for the individual species though. Any thoughts on this welcome. Solanum dulcamara 09:50, 7 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also: I saw one of these growing on an old abounded farmhouse. It was growing up the wall. The fruit were green and the flowers were budding. It was beautiful. This picture doesn't do the plant justice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.104.18.76 (talk) 19:49, 1 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

"This representation of banana passionfruit in Moche Ceramic looks more likely another Solanacea, the Floripondio plant(Burgmansia sp.) because the leaves of banana passionfruit are palmately 3 lobed and the fruits are longer." edit by 128.214.165.243 on 31 March 2015.

Confused article edit

The article is confused in places because the English name "banana passionfruit" has more than one meaning, apparently being used to refer to the single species Passiflora mollisima, the fruit of several species, and, as in the article, a supersection of the genus Passiflora. The taxonbar reflected this confusion; banana passionfruit (Q415622) is not a taxon item, so can't be used in a taxonbar. Peter coxhead (talk) 20:09, 27 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
